The shadows without

In the darkness it waits, eyes glinting and unblinking
Breathing in the memories of all the things that have come to pass
Lurking deepness and sparing no beats
The terror and the criminal, the lover and the just
The light calls forward but it is pressed against the back
No time is there for the heartless, fear has no place to rest
A hand moves but whose, the reflection is not in sync
There is another here maybe more unknowns in this nest
Along the edge or in the clear it is impossible to tell
Riding the crest of a wave or rolling down a slickened slope
The slide begins the level becomes unbalanced
Feet are kept to go on a few more slow steps of hope
Pushing ahead when there is still the point of light behind
Driving into uncertain to take a chance on forever
The known holds safety but in there is nothing left to find
The attached pulling back, the line now must sever
Here it must be no matter who else is walking near
The journey takes many feet but the destination stand two
Lonely it is not but alone it will always become
Facing the cold, the heat the blindness of all but a few
Voices heard, whispers on the winged winds of the night
That name was mine I am certain but memory had no hold
Swing from side to side to side, swaying to and fro
Lost in the winters morn no sun would light with gold
Onward and deeper within, pushing with all that might
Tearing at the walls of truth that none can abide
The light behind is gone and only the darkness stays
A crack of light breaks through and arrives the other side.
