Scientific explanations for pokemon moves - GEN 1 - Part 1

in #pokemon6 years ago

Hey everyone, today I asked myself what a good way would be to explain the different Pokemon move-sets if the Pokemon would exist in real life.

Since there is a huge number of moves this first edition will work on some selected moves.

Fire Types:

Okay, first of all, before explaining move for move we need some basis on how we explain that those Pokemon are able to create fire.
Therefore, it is very important to know that all Fire-Type Pokemon create certain highly flammable gases in their intestine when digesting food (Like methane just better). On the basis of that, not like humans, they have certain channels between the intestine and their mouth to make sure that gas can be used for natural defense mechanisms.
Additionally, in order to light the gas up, their teeth have similar properties like, for example, flint, which, on the impact of the teeth on each other can light up certain amounts of this gas.

Since we're talking about realistic moves we have to see that in a realistic battle each fire Pokemon has a limited amount of gas per time available for fire attacks, which makes the battles more strategically using fire Pokemon.

MoveExplanation
EmberAn initial fire attack, the Pokemon doesn't have the ability yet to channel huge amounts of gas and releases it in small spits of lit gas.
FlamethrowerMore powerful attack, the Pokemon is now able to channel their gas into their mouth before they light it on for a static stream
Fire BlastVery strong attack, besides channeling the gas in a stream the Pokemon is able to store certain amounts of the gas in their mouth and release it all at once
Fire PunchFire punch Pokemon have the gas channels not only in their mouth but also in the palms of their hands which allows them to light the fire with their flint like fingernails just before an impact.
Fire SpinA Pokemon with a certain speed is able to light up the terrain in which the Pokemon stands in and then run around the burning Pokemon which creates a wind trapping the enemy Pokemon in it.

Water types:

As fire types, water type Pokemon also need a way to handle water, water type Pokemon have an unusual big Bladder with, as the Fire-Type Pokemon, the possibility to channel the content of their bladder, using muscular contractions back through their mouth.
Nevertheless, as Fire-type Pokemon, their attacks are limited to a certain amount of liters. Nevertheless, there are certain possibilities to regenerate this. The first and easy option would be direct contact with water which would allow them to suck in the water and directly use it.
The second option would be slower and would depend on the humidity in the air. Depending on the amount of water their skin is able to absorb humidity in the air around them to slowly fill up their water tanks between attacks.

MoveExplanation
BubbleInitial water attack, Pokemon with low channeling power creating bubbles using certain soap-like properties of their saliva
Bubble BeamStronger attack allowing them to channel their bubbles.
ClampPhysical attacks trapping the opponent between certain extremities of their body (Trapping inside their claws for example)
CrabhammerPhysical attack which every crab which is big enough can easily use
Water GunDirect water attack spitting out big amounts of water
Hydro PumpPokemon needs to be of a certain size to have a big enough bladder to store all that water
SurfAttack only possible inside the water, the bigger the Pokemon the bigger the impact when it jumps out of the water to splash back in, able to cause big waves
WaterfallThe Pokemon releases all of its water in one big attack over the enemy Pokemon
WithdrawJust a defensive tactic which increases the Pokemon defense by maintaining a more defensive posture (Decreases their offensive power though)

Electric Types:

Now, electric types work differently, electric types Pokemon have certain properties in their skin which makes them sensitive to static electricity.
Like modern batteries, they are able to store a certain amount of this electricity in their skin and are able to release it using certain movements.
To recharge it, those kinds of Pokemon have to rub their skin on each other. Fortunately, most electric types are either perfect runners or have very big amounts of electricity storage in their body in order to recharge their attacks.

MoveExplanation
ThunderDirect thunder attack, when raining the Pokemon is able to attract thunder from the clouds by creating a strong negative pool, the Pokemon moves in this moment over the enemy Pokemon which causes the thunder to flow through their body in the Pokemon directly beneath them.
Thunder PunchThe Pokemon rubs their paws before impact in the opponents Pokemon which results in releasing parts of their static electricity through their hands
Thunder ShockCreates a small stream of lightning from an electric type Pokemon which is directed through the air to the opponents Pokemon. As Thunder wave and thunderbolt, the Pokemon uses the liquid from its body which it charges up before spitting it to the enemy which causes damage on impact.
Thunder WaveSee above but in a wave-form around the Pokemon
ThunderboltSee above but stronger

Grass Types:

Grass types work quite differently than the other Pokemon types. Grass-type Pokemon are substantially different from each other which allows them to use specific attacks based on genetic differences similar to certain plants.

MoveExplanation
AbsorbAs Parasitic Plants Pokemon of this type are able to absorb several nutrients of the opponents body on impact using small hairs on their body which penetrate the opponents Pokemon skin and filter certain elements from their blood [1]
Leech SeedSimilar as Absorb but the Pokemon is able to spit out a seed which stays connected with the Pokemon and using its metabolism is able to grow fast around the opponents Pokemon causing serious damage as long as the connection is there.
Mega DrainAs absorb but stronger
Razor LeafPokemon that have genes of certain types of cactus, unfortunately, the leaves grow quite slowly, so the attacks using them can only be used a few times every day
Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, SporeCertain Pokemon, as plants [2] have the ability to alter the mind of the opponents, Pokemon using attacks like Sleep Powder, Stun Spore or Spore produce chemicals which on contact with the opponents Pokemon can cause certain status effects
Solar BeamStrongest Grass-Type attack, Pokemon using this attack are able to channel sun for a certain time in lense like channels connected with certain parts of their body making them able to release channeled beams of sun, the longer the Pokemon is able to channel these beams, the more powerful the attacks
Vine WhipPokemon able to use this attacks have, as for example an octopus "vine" like organs connected with their body which they are able to control to attack other Pokemon.
Petal DanceUsing the vines of the vine whip attack the Pokemon is able to create a wind which in combination with their petals can cause a dangerous wind for the opponents Pokemon

I hope you liked that short course through the world of Pokemon and maybe some biologists like @suesa are able to genetically manipulate some plants to eventually breed that kind of animals? =D
