Urban Fiction isn't just for black people,

in #politcal6 years ago (edited)

I used to write quite a bit on this one website, where lots of "famous authors" get to post to promote their books. At one point in General Fiction I was even promoted to literary, even though I'm not famous. I've pretty much always written about the gritty city life sense I was in my early twenties. There is this current of political correctness that permeates in Wattpad culture.

Specifically, the "you're not a minority, unless you're POC." No I'm not kidding about this. Irish Americans, and other immigrants are rolling in their grave with this specific type of American culture. What this morphs into is this idea that apparently, "only POC can write Urban Fiction." They want their special status, so that they can exclude other minority groups.

I remember at time when books like Maniac Maghee were decent sellers. But now, unless you--word for word--black person, not 1. Irish American, not 2. Mexican, nor Asian, than apparently you can't write "Urban Fiction."

If Urban Fiction were POC fiction, than call it fucking POC fiction. I was raised in a culture where you call things what they were, not use indirect pussy footing language to get your idea across. And what kills me, is they even exclude LGBT people like myself.

This was not the intention of Martin Luther King. He would be rolling in his grave, if he knew some stupid teenagers on Wattpad were telling people what they could and could not write.

And you have Zuckerburg, Obama, and Hillary leading this very American political correctness. Let me tell you something, these people are oligarchs. They don't give two shits whether you're discriminated against. They also wont be affected when the healthcare system starts going downhill thanks to right wing nutjobs like Romney, and not recently Donald J Trump.

Lets stop excluding people, that try to help each other.
