Blame Russia

Based on the headlines on most mainstream news sites these days, you would be forgiven for thinking that you fell asleep and woke up in Cold War 1982.

Russia has gone from being this communist cold distant country with a fearless leader, to seemingly being responsible for every single problem in the world.

Apparently, Russia is the reason Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election and Hillary Clinton lost. Allegedly Trump and his associates have been colluding with Russia throughout the election campaign and allegedly thereafter.

I wasn't alive when the Cold War was raging, but I can imagine the situation is not too different from how it is now. The U.S blames Russia for something, Russia denies it and tensions are strained. The media sits in between all of this acting as an agitator, fuelling the fire.

America blames Russia because it's convenient, because it's easy. When things get hard and the train of democracy runs off the tracks, instead of taking responsibility we blame the big scary soviet bad guy because people believe it.

It's easy to blame a country which along with Europe abandoned traditional capitalism sometime in the 19th century, while America soldiered on and doubled-down on its own brand of aggressive capitalism which has resulted in a house of cards style economy.

As we saw when the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) in 2009 which wiped a lot of value from the stock market, saw people lose retirement money, jobs and massive financial institutions go bankrupt: capitalism doesn't always work.

Is Russia an atagonist in this new-found war or is it just an opportunist? While America slowly severs off its own limbs and bleeds out liters of democracy, is it really Russia destroying democracy in America or is it America themselves?

Make no mistake, I don't think Russia is a good guy or any better, Putin is known to silence anyone who challenges him, usually in the form of a "disappearance" and civil rights in Russia are not exactly first-world standards. But, is Putin any worse than leaders of the U.S and other countries? Probably not.

Is it really surprising to anyone that the Russian crows are circulating the corpse of America? it has been rotting and dying for sometime now, we were bound to attract opportunists looking to feast on the corpse of America.
