The Myth of the Gender Pay Gap

The issue about Gender Pay Wage has been talked about for a long time, and it is estimated that women in the United States earn around $0.77 for every $1 that men earn, and this has been the subject of discussion around the world. But what's so true about this?, do women really make less money because they're women or is it something else?

The truth of the Gender Pay Gap is really, really false. Women earn less a year than men, certainly, but this is not because a man is paid more than a woman in the same job... If so, companies would hire only women because that would reduce wage costs by 25%, women earn less than men because of the professions they choose. The Georgetown University compiled a list of the five best-paying college majors, and the percentage of men or women majoring in those fields:

Considering that men statistically choose the careers that pay the most, it is logical to think that men will earn more annually than women. Men usually choose mathematics, computers, tools or objects for their field of employment that are the best paid, obviously, women often choose jobs where there is more interaction with other people, such as education, social sciences, health sciences, among others, which at the same time are not as well paid as the previous ones, it is not only logical, it is obvious. And not only that, men are more likely to work longer hours and take less rest, but this is not due to patriarchy, this is due to biology, men and women have different interests and tastes, which usually lead them to make the choices they make, women are the ones who get pregnant and normally decide to spend time raising their babies, again, thanks to Biology and Human Behavior.

There is no Gender Wage Gap

"The official Bureau of Labor Department statistics show that the median earnings of full-time female workers is 77 percent of the median earnings of full-time male workers. But that is very different than “77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men.” The latter gives the impression that a man and a woman standing next to each other doing the same job for the same number of hours get paid different salaries. That’s not at all the case. “Full time” officially means 35 hours, but men work more hours than women. That’s the first problem: We could be comparing men working 40 hours to women working 35." So it's discrimination?

The short answer is no. While it is true that a significant number of women say they earn less than men in the same job, this is also true of men, an example of this is Modeling where men are paid 75% less than women, despite having longer careers. But nobody complains about this, curious... In fact, even a feminist organization like the AAUW shows how the Gender Pay Gap is reduced to just 6.6 cents, taking into account the different career choices made by men and women. That is to say, the wage gap is not thanks to sexism and discrimination, it is thanks to the decisions people make, these decisions are due to the different interests that both genders have, it is something biological that has always existed, it is not something imposed by society, it is something that has been demonstrated time and again.

Few wage gap studies control for variables such as dangerous work environment; men are vastly overrepresented, for example, on oil rigs. Unfortunately, this myth is an example of the phrase: "Not only feminist movements have tried to promote it, but politicians, ranging from presidential candidates like Hillary Clinton to the White House itself, have promoted this falsehood and clear example of manipulation of statistics as a fact and a problem that must be dealt with as quickly as possible, which is totally false, because there is no such problem, it is not something we can fix, the only way to get a real equal pay is to make everyone get the same pay, which is unfair and immoral, because a surgeon cannot get the same pay as a sweeper, for example. You can't change the decisions people make when choosing their jobs, and that's where the whole problem lies... Decisions.

In conclusion, men tend to work longer hours, work more lucrative jobs, take fewer days off because they can't get pregnant, take more risks and accept jobs in other cities, this type of election is due to the interests and tastes of everyone, and this is what creates the famous myth of the Gender Wage Gap, and demonstrates once again how dangerous it is to manipulate statistics to drive a political agenda.
