Physically weaker men support socialism

in #politics5 years ago

As a libertarian-leaning person I abhor socialism. However, this piece is not meant to convince anyone of anything. I simply found an interesting article that made a connection between physical prowess and political affiliation with socialist policies.

source

Researchers at Brunel University, London published their findings in the Evolution and Human Behavior journal and in so they randomly selected and observed 171 men and measured their bodies and tested their physical strength. Then they compared these results with the same men's views on socialism and redistribution of wealth.

The end result was that physical weakness correlated with preference for socialism whereas very few of the physically strong men had such a preference. Researcher Michael price stated something along the lines of this being a part of our "stone age brains" where men with stronger capabilities were normally more successful at the things that mattered before technology took over... the stronger people were more successful at hunting, building, fighting, and finding mates.

The study also found that the physically stronger men tended to spend more time in the gym, which is likely obvious but they also found that the stronger ones tended to reject socialist ideas regardless of whether or not they themselves were rich or poor.

you can read the original article here but it is just a snippet, the actual raw data I could not find available for free... not that anyone would read it anyway as I am certain it is quite academic and boring.

it is not my objective to hurt anyone's feelings, or to start an argument. I also know people who are quite strong and successful athletes who support some level of socialism (just look at professional sports in USA) I am merely pointing out what I considered to be an interesting academic paper... don't get mad bruh!

I am afraid I have to agree here. Physically weak men tend to lack self esteem and the confidence to take what they want. Individuality is a foreign concept to them. They only believe in the collective. You can tell from their choice of words e.g. "We" must solve the problem, "We" must take responsibility, or that "we" must do better.

This is interesting. In fact some time ago I made my own theory about it, I thought that men "mentally" weak supported socialism, however, the physical can influence the mind too, it is only a matter of perspective, if the Vikings were dwarfs and weak, probably they would not have been warriors, the mind is influenced in part by the physical condition, so it is to be assumed that a physically weak man is also mentally weak, and consequently supports socialism.

Exactly why the supposedly "weaker" men are prone to be leftist more than the "stronger". The weaker men spend more time reading and studying rather than going to the gym and partying, not that there is anything wrong with either, I choose to do both and I guess that's why I consider myself a centrist rather than right or left 🤷 I do however consider myself left leaning, so there is that.

However, the main reason why people support the capitalist system is because that's what they have seen growing up and has been made "common sense". All economic models, even the one taught at school, shown in media and even in religion are based on the capitalist economic system. Louis Althusser calls these social institutions Ideological State Apparatuses; these are used to push in ideas into peoples minds.

You grow up in school being taught to obey authority and keep quiet and do as you're told which are all qualities the bourgeoisie prefer in workers. You turn on your TV that's all you see, military good, government good, business good, money good, anarchy bad, protest bad, rebel bad. Hence we get all our ideas and think of them as common sense just because these are the beliefs widely believed in.

It is also a fact that, all intellectuals, scientists, philosophers, etc, in known history, if not all then almost all, have been physically "weak". Yet they are the ones famous for changing the world and not the ones who spent time building their muscles in gym.

just a heads up: you can quote text by typing ">" before anything you want to quote. Like this:

You grow up in school being taught to obey authority and keep quiet

I can see how that might be possible. I would look at it in terms of testosterone. There is probably a chance that the more physically fit men have a higher level of testosterone that the weaker men. The hormone deficiency in the weaker men will probably lead to them being more emotional and empathetic to the suffering and plight of others which in turn would lead them to support ideals that on the surface would promise an equal share to everyone. I think we all know that usually doesn't end up being the case with Socialism, but still. I don't really support socialism, but I think it gets a bad rap sometimes because of the ease with which corruption can settle in. Helen Keller was a socialist, but no one ever mentions that about her....

To be as socialist as goebbels hitler propaganda minister ... so strong ... very good article I read it completely a 10 friend sincerely my respects as always ...

Lol. Funny places we find correlation. :D
