Remember when the police bombed homes in Philadelphia?
On this day, 13 May 1985, Philadelphia police engaged in a gun battle with Black radical group MOVE, then dropped a bomb on their home, killing 5 adults and 6 children, destroying 61 homes in the predominantly Black neighborhood, and making 250 people homeless.
Always intrigues me, how law enforcement have access to ready-made explosive devices. Like, what reason was given, when the quartermaster at Philadelphia PD requisitioned a bomb? "Well, huh, we may have to blast a door open, when serving a warrant; dude might live in a castle, with reinforced doors. Probably best send us a catapult, while we're at it!"
This is a short account of the shocking events: https://libcom.org/library/move-bombing-1985
You only see this story in Faces of Death because it was a black mayor who ordered the bombing.
