Voting for Evil

in #politics6 years ago (edited)

If you acknowledge that voting is pointless, why do you do it?

Is it because the mouth-pieces of government power laid a guilt trip on you?

When there's an option to fill that government position with no one, it will be worth my time. Until then, nobody's gonna make me feel bad for refusing to choose which cronies benefit most from the money government stole from me.

The United States isn't a democracy, no matter how much you want to believe otherwise. It's a constitutional republic. If less than half of the voting-age public actually shows up to vote, and roughly half of those each vote for two equally-evil scumbags from the two major parties because they've been brainwashed to believe that anything else is statistically insignificant, we don't actually achieve majority rule like so many fantasize. Take the last presidential election. Less than half of eligible votes voted for the two major candidates combined. Keep telling me your vote counts but somehow if you vote for a "third-party candidate" your vote doesn't matter.

So I've collected some stickers that more accurately reflect the utter futility of this ritual most of my fellow Americans desperately want to believe makes a difference, despite over 200 years of evidence to the contrary. You know, that government you keep insisting take care of you as if you're a fucking child - the same one that legalized slavery and internment camps and Jim Crow, etc. etc. etc.

Enjoy.

Admittedly I tend to value insights from economists and philosophers far more than impossibly-pretty Hollywood actors or snarling internet personalities, in no small part because the latter two both seek the same goal of expanding federal power to protect them - at everyone else's expense - from the horde of zombies that never seems to materialize as promised the day after "us" loses control of the levers of power to "them".

Ron Paul is of the Mises camp, is he not? :)

Some day we need to talk about my personal voting strategy,

MAXIMUM CHAOS 😎

Looky Looky what I found :D A ballot with a REAL CHOICE! ;-)

I generally agree but I really wanted to cut off the orange at his knees at this point he exceeds every level of disgusting ... but yes the american political system is a sham ...

Sure, Donald Trump is a divisive figure. But has their been any mention of actual policy in this "Most Important Election in Our LifetimeTM"?

  • Deficit spending
  • Supporting Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen (because they finance both major political parties)
  • The "Russia-gate" deception the Democrats spent the past two years foaming at the mouth over, which now appears to not have happened despite how often late-night comedians talk about it as accepted fact
  • Tax policy, particularly tariffs which are effectively a regressive tax
  • Government spying on everyone, including US citizens with no ties to terrorism
  • The erosion of liberties, particularly constitutional rights which can hardly be called rights if government immunizes itself against liability for violating them
  • Social Security expecting unfunded liability between $11.4 trillion and $32.1 trillion by 2090. This is according to the CBO, the SSA Board of Trustees (Summary here), and translated into plain language by CNBC here and USA Today here

Do you hear any political candidate talking about any of these or other extremely important issues?

No, of course not. All we hear from politicians is how corrupt and evil "the other guy" is.

And they're all correct.

You get to choose between cancer and AIDS.

If you choose neither cancer nor AIDS, you're a "motherfucking communist". Or some other smug condescension.

No shit our country is fucked up. It's an accurate reflection of us.

dang was gonna vote on this one
Rick Astley! now there's the next Vermin Supreme

Plenty of brilliant insight in the comments, which of course you agree with unless you hate AmericaTM. LOL
