cause you copying a link to the gif instead of uploading the gif. For steem or them to show the shit they need you must have a .gif, .jpg etc ending , they can parse that then they do stupid shit like download it to their own system :) They have not added support to parse giphy urls so you need the media link which the pathetic app does not give you. Hence download gif then upload or get media link via web.
I noticed that but it's too much damn work!!
