Western media and education system has been pushing anti-Soviet and anti-Russian messages for many decades trying to smear, slander and erase heroic history of people who defeated Nazies and tried to erase history of their own collaboration with and support of Nazis.
That salute has a long indo-arian genealogy and used to be a standard military salute. I think the point of comparing the 2018 World Cup to 1936 Olympics is the appearance of hypocrisy. It is hypocritical from an inaccurate view of history but this is the view of history held in the West. So Russia is feeding the West its own poison by trotting out these photos! Lol
