But What About the Other Side?

I came of age during the George W. Bush years and got interested in politics through Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. They made fun of Bush and called him out for his bullshit, and it was fair because he deserved it, being the one in power. But then Obama got elected and Colbert and Stewart continued to make fun of the Republicans, giving Obama—the one in power—a free pass for his bullshit. (Much of which was the same exact bullshit.)

I didn't recognize the hypocrisy at the time because I liked and trusted Stewart and Colbert, mainly because I thought they were funny and I was naive and ignorant about politics and economics. But now, being red-pilled, I can see what I did not see before in Stewart and Colbert, Bush and Obama—the hypocrisies and similarities.

It really takes a libertarian to recognize the hypocrisy of both the left and the right. Whenever someone criticizes one side, the automatic counter is, “But what about the other side?” Only a libertarian can say, “Yeah, fuck them too.” The Democrats and Republicans have no right to criticize each other for most things they do because they both do the same terrible things: foreign wars, corporate bailouts, increasing the size and power of the State.
