"American Trump Card" Songwriting Challenge #26 by Morgan Washam
Whether you're a Republican, Democrat, Independent or other political persuasion, one doesn't have to look or think too hard to understand that the paradigm of what has made America both free and united is steadily fracturing and eroding. This song is a metaphoric commentary on the state of being of the people and politics in the USA on the cusp of the 2020 Presidential Election. I think that people sometimes think that things should stay the same forever. They forget that change is inevitable and to quote Neil Young, "change is the only thing that is for sure in this world". So many bankers, politicians and media moguls have tried to maintain the status quo indefinitely, for the purpose of extracting as much money as possible from the people of this world. These people have mortgaged the future stability of the world for our children. Yet, it's important to understand that everyday is a new day that we might turn things around for the better; choosing to live our lives in peace with our neighbors, knowing that we can stand together and respect each other's right to be happy, free and simply breathe, while seeking to stand together to create a new system where people, love, compassion and understanding are more important than greed and things. Morgan Washam is a singer songwriter, producer and educator from the Appalachian hills of Ohio. He has performed in many music projects throughout the years including Peach Melba and Blood Moon.
