"I'll Eat My Hat If This Means Anything Substantive": Why The Trump-Xi Truce Achieves Little
The markets seem to have gotten a breather.
In the much anticipated meeting between President Trump and Xi, a truce of sorts was reached. The United States agrees not to raise tariffs beyond the present 10% Jan 1 while China agrees to purchase more American goods. This "truce" is in place for 90 days.
Both men face slowing economies and slumping stock markets. Unfortunately, outside of a bit of a lull, this does little to solve the crisis between the two countries.

Short term sentiment. That's about it. Both sides are far too stubborn to come to a mutual agreement. They'll want terms to lean their side rather than equally.
