Are You Prepared?

We are always busy with life in general, but the Spring season is always a busy time for gardeners.

There are however, some things we should always remember to do before things get too hectic, so I thought that I would put forward a few reminders:

All gardening tools should be inspected, cleaned and sharpened where necessary.
Gardening is always so much easier with tools that are kept in a good condition - especially the tools used for pruning etc., - blunt tools do damage to the plants if used in this condition.
If you cannot do this yourself, take the tools to the experts and let them do it for you.

Store your tools in an orderly fashion so that you have easy access to them and can see at a glance if one is missing.

Clean all your empty pots and seedling trays - I wash in water and then dip into a solution of Jeyes Fluid to kill off any bad bacteria etc., - if this is not done you can spread disease into the soil when it is time to plant.

If you have labels that are reusable, clean these too - wipe off any print with some white spirits and then they will be ready to use again in the coming season.

All these tips will ensure a good season ahead.

Nice tips :) Sometimes it's not only harming the plants, but it kills the fun of gardening and increases the risk of accidentally hurting ourselves. Imagine using 20x the force to cut a vine...nope. Tools in good condition are important!

Wise words indeed!

Ahhh, those lovely pansies!

I use pencil on my markers, it erases quickly the following year.

Not sure we have Jeyes Fluid here in the States. What is it composed of?

Well, you can use any type of disinfectant - basically you just want to kill bad bacteria on the tools.

These are definitely some good tips. I always try and phone the local nurseries to see what they are planning on growing as seedlings, too.

Yes that is a good plan but only buy ones that will grow well in your area as many nurseries bring in plants from other areas where the plants are flowering - colour sells, then when purchased and planted locally, the plants do not do well.
