Cohen has a very crude humour... I have no problem with that and often find it funny. But I guess that this uncanny talent for creating characters that match people's prejudices and then using it to cheat them is not friendly or constructive. When he did it with his British countrymen it was somehow funny enough. The Brits have the same humour and are supposed to take it like good sports, but with the more naive, imaginative and ethnocentric Americans something happened that where not flattering for neither them nor Cohen.
The little sheriff is definitely not a sympathetic person in my eyes, but exploiting his lack of intelligence and education is not really that sympathetic either. Still funny in its own way due to the craziness of it all.
