Pride Comes Before a Fall - Dez Bryant

in #pride6 years ago

Perhaps you are familiar with the Proverb from the Bible - "Pride comes before a fall..."

Well, I couldn't help be reminded of this Proverb as I was watching a football game between the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.

This was a very important football game - the teams had identical records and both were on the playoff bubble. Dallas was at home and was favored in the match up. I am not a huge fan of either team and time constraints do not allow me to watch many football games, but I caught most of this game.

In the end, the Seahawks won 21-12, which is all that matters. However, Dallas dominated the game in terms of total yards and time of possession (the Dallas offense had more than double the total yards of the Seattle offense). While there are many factors to the better team losing, I believe this loss falls on the shoulders of Dez Bryant, the marquee Dallas receiver.

In the 2nd quarter, Dez was yet to catch his first pass of the game, and was on the sidelines yelling at teammates and stomping around like a child because he wanted passes to go his way. He always thinks he is the best player on the field, so his attitude is GIVE ME THE BALL.

Well, the Dallas QB Dak Prescott finally got a pass to Dez Bryant a late in the 2nd quarter, and he arrogantly was running with the ball "palmed" instead of tucked in to his arm. The defense saw this, and promptly punched the ball out of his hand, causing a lost fumble while the team was driving strong. A bad turnover. The first few series of the 3rd Quarter saw Dez Bryant cause (or partially cause) two more turnovers. With Dak Prescott scrambling to get away from a potential sack, Dez Bryant was standing still (fully covered by the defense) instead of running and trying to get open. The result was that Dak threw the ball Dez Bryant's way, but he was moping around instead of getting open and the defense jumped in front of the pass and returned the interception for a touchdown, a pick-6, and Dez Bryant didn't even put in a 50% effort to go after the cornerback who intercepted the ball. A couple of series later, Dak through a pass to Dez Bryant that was a little behind him, but which he should have caught - instead, it bounced off his hands into the air, and was intercepted.

Those 3 turnovers cost Dallas the game, and were mostly Dez Bryant's fault. His pride and arrogance were on full display during the game, so it was ironic to see him be the primary cause of the loss which effectively ended their season. A good reminder to stay humble and grateful for sure!

Totally agree, he is one person I steer clear of in fantasy picks. Now if we got points for tantrums. He might be top 5 talent.

Is Prescott going to work out for Dallas? I have only seen a few highlights from him this year. GO Broncos!

A football match, which has both been in the playoff bubble. this and liked in the match. I belong as a football fan. then I naturally consider this a good match.
