Buried Alive – Episode 2

Followers of The Westcoast Milblogger can rest assured global events are being monitored around the world as hostilities continue to escalate. We are also adding Vocal to the mix in the new year to increase revenue for our media empire.
As we announce this exciting news, we’re going to continue promoting our new audio drama soon to be released on Headfone (maybe). Just as the Hemp Revolution met a buzzsaw in American politics, so too is Buried Alive meeting opposition from the audio industry putting pressure on its commissioner.
Good news as we remain in control of the script and movie rights. However, at this time, you can only hear how Buried Alive ends if you subscribe to the Headfone app and they release the final product.
EPISODE 2 - SCENE 1
(SFX of Headfone's show playing in the background.)
NARRATOR
(Seductive voice) Marie's in her room sitting in front of a mirror listening to an audio story on her laptop. It's her morning routine before leaving the house to go on a run and just like most mornings her little sister Hazel walks in to talk to her.
HAZEL
(Carefree teenage girl) O my God, are you listening to another Romance on Headfone-dot-c-o-dot-i-n? You're like totally addicted to those stories Marie.
MARIE
(Happy) Yes Hazel, it's another Romance on Headfone. Maybe when you get a little older you'll enjoy listening to stories instead of pop music.
HAZEL
What do you have against Speed Drive? I've been listening to that song all week on repeat.
MARIE
I know. Are you going to see Barbie again?
HAZEL
Maybe. Why?
MARIE
Just wondering. See, it's a story. That's what I'm talking about. These stories on Headfone are really entertaining. I'm sure I'll hear Speed Drive tonight at the club though.
HAZEL
No. You're going to that new place opening on the Strip? I want to go.
MARIE
You're like too young. I'm sure I'll be there on your 21st birthday, holding your hair when you puke from drinking too much.
HAZEL
I've drank before already. I'm not as innocent as you and Mom think.
MARIE
You should keep that to yourself. You're always going to be Mom's little angel. I'll pretend I didn't hear anything. Do you want to run with me today?
HAZEL
No. I'm just going to hang out at the pool like usual. It's been so hot lately. I don't want to sweat.
MARIE
Well, you're young. You have you're figure. I have to exercise to keep the pounds off from nights on the town. Besides, it's fun for me to get lost listening to a story while running on a trail. As for the heat, I try to get out in the morning before it gets too hot.
HAZEL
Lets go get some breakfast then.
NARRATOR
Marie stops the story playing on her laptop. She can pick up where she left off on her phone later. Then she follows her little sister downstairs to the kitchen where their Mom is waiting with a stack of freshly made pancakes and sliced fruit on the table.
ESTELLE
(Lovingly) Look at my beautiful baby girls. Please sit down and eat. Someday you'll remember a moment like this and be glad you did.
MARIE
It's so cute how you love being our Mom. (Caring) It looks delicious. The perfect meal before hitting the trail.
HAZEL
Or the pool. (Laughing)
ESTELLE
It's sad that your Father died so young. Only his sacrifice made this life possible for us. I want you both to remember that and be thankful.
(Note to sound engineer: Please layer these voices for simultaneous delivery)
MARIE
Yes Mom.
HAZEL
Yes Mom.
NARRATOR
Estelle stands in the kitchen watching her two girls eat the breakfast she made them. (SFX of chewing and silverware on plates) It almost brings her to tears to be mindful in this moment. Yet she keeps her sentimentality in check so she doesn't embarrass herself in front of her daughters.
ESTELLE
Where are you running today Marie?
MARIE
I'm thinking of hitting The Burbs in Red Rock Canyon again. That's right off Cliff Shadows Parkway. It's an easy drive. Then I can get back here early to get ready for tonight.
ESTELLE
You're going to the grand opening for that new club on the Strip. (Annoyed)
MARIE
It's so exciting. People are saying A list celebrities are going to be there tonight. (Giddy)
HAZEL
Please. (Rolling her eyes)
ESTELLE
You need to get serious Marie. You're 22-years-old now and should be getting married, or starting a business, you could at least get a job. Maybe having a trust fund is spoiling you.
MARIE
Mom, what if I meet Brad Pitt tonight and we fall in love?
ESTELLE
I'd say back off he's mine. Besides he's too old for you.
(All three laugh)
MARIE
Well, got to go. See you guys this afternoon.
SCENE 2
NARRATOR
Estelle and Hazel continue to talk as Marie leaves the house to get in her pink Mercedes. Only Marie doesn't know she has a stalker.
Sitting outside her gated community, in a blue Kia Optima sits Allen, also known as Casino Killer. He's been parking near the tennis courts outside her gated community everyday this summer. He knows she likes to go running on hiking trails in the morning and he spends his time in the evenings learning good places to hide so he can abduct her when the time is right.
ALLEN
(Creepy, speaking to himself inside his car) Hello Marie. Where are you going today?
NARRATOR
Allen watches Marie's pink Mercedes leave the safety of her gated community. He starts his car ready to follow her to the end of the Earth, gives her a second to see which way she's going, then pulls out of the tennis court parking lot keeping her pink Mercedes in sight.
ALLEN
I'm feeling good about today. (Excited) I think the time has come to catch this rabbit.
NARRATOR
Marie travels south on Boulevard, then takes the 613 West. Soon she hits the 215 North, and in no time at all she exits on West Cheyenne Avenue that turns into Cliff Shadows Parkway. Marie knows where she's going, while Allen hasn't figured it out yet.
Going north she passes Buckskin Cliff Shadows, and Trigono (pronounced t-r-EE-g-aw-n-aw) Hills Park, two places where she's ran before. There's only one place left, and when Marie turns left on West Alexander Road, Allen knows she's going to park at Cliff Shadows Open Desert Park.
ALLEN
The Burbs, she must be running The Burbs today. It's worth a shot. This feels like my lucky day.
NARRATOR
Allen turns around to backtrack to a place he's scouted where he can abduct Marie. Meanwhile, Marie continues to the parking lot oblivious to the man who's been following her. She gets out of the car puts her wireless earphones in and finds the Romance she's been listening to on Headfone. (Headfone Romance plays in the background)
After a short stretch, she tucks her gold necklace under her shirt and begins to run The Burbs trail.(SFX of feet running on dirt, gravel, and breathing)
Allen turns right on Buckskin Avenue, a cul-de-sac, near the freeway exit. The short avenue dead ends near a portion of The Burbs trail. Allen turns his car around so he can park with the trunk facing the trail. There are a few semi-trucks parked facing the same direction, toward the freeway, where drivers must be sleeping.
Allen gets out. He's already dressed as if he's going for a morning run himself. (SFX of walking on dirt) He gets to where The Burbs trail intersects with the path he just took and waits for the sound of someone running.
(SFX of feet running on dirt, gravel, and breathing with Headfone Romance playing) Marie is working up a sweat in the morning desert sun. She feels great exercising in nature. Her gold necklace like the soul of the world giving energy to her movements.
Her sense of peace and well being is soon interrupted as she turns a corner to find a man bent down, tying his shoelace. He seems out of place, not sweating or out of breath, and there were no signs of someone running ahead of her. Marie shrugs it off and keeps going.
Allen knows this is his chance to catch the rabbit. He stands up, pulls a cloth with homemade chloroform from his pocket, and begins sprinting after Marie. (SFX of running fast on dirt)
Marie turns to see what's happening as a white cloth is pushed against her mouth and nose. Instantly, she blacks out.
SCENE 3
NARRATOR
AT the house later that day Estelle sits in a chair brushing Hazel's hair. They're both worried about Marie. She should have been home hours ago. Both Estelle and Hazel have called Marie's number and sent many text messages without getting an answer.
(Phone rings) Estelle's phone begins to ring. The two jolt to attention. Hazel turns to meet Estelle's gaze.
ESTELLE
HAnd me the phone. It's there on the coffee table in front of you.
NARRATOR
HAzel reaches for the phone. She doesn't recognize the phone number and her face wrinkles in frustration. Without a word she hands the phone to her Mom.
ESTELLE
(Ready for the police to tell her Marie's dead) Hello? Who is this?
ALLEN
(Over the phone) Hi Estelle. You don't know me, but Marie's been telling me a lot about you.
ESTELLE
MArie's there? Put her on the phone! (Mad) What the hell is going on today?
ALLEN
I'm afraid you don't understand. I'm Casino Killer. You're daughter is buried alive.
ESTELLE
(Bursting into tears) You've buried my baby alive?
HAZEL
MOm, is Marie in trouble? What's going on. Is it the police?
ALLEN
I need you to transfer five-million dollars worth of Bitcoin to a digital wallet. Marie is still alive. You can speak to her now. Just don't call the police. You're to deal with me only. Do you understand?
ESTELLE
YEs I understand. Can you please put Marie on the phone?
ALLEN
YEs. (Annoyed) Hang on one second. (SFX of fumbling the phone)
MARIE
(Scared and crying, desperate to live) Mom! Mom! Please help me I'm in a coffin under ground. I can't see anything.
(Note to sound engineer: Please layer these voices for simultaneous delivery)
ESTELLE
O my God Marie! I'll get you out of there baby. Please hold on it will be alright.
HAZEL
MArie! Are you alright. Please come home. We miss you.
ESTELLE
MOm. Hazel. I can hear you. I love you guys. I'm buried alive and I don't know where.
(Crying)
ALLEN
OK guys that's enough. I need you to send me five-mill-
ESTELLE
MArie!
ALLEN
EStelle. Marie can't hear you now. She can't speak to you either. You need to send me five-million dollars in Bitcoin. If you can do it right now you can see your daughter.
ESTELLE
I don't have Bitcoin. I've never used cryptocurrency. I need to talk with my accountant to set it up. It's going to take time.
ALLEN
I'll call back tomorrow at the same time with a different burner phone. Answer the phone Estelle if you want to see your daughter alive again.
ESTELLE
HEllo. Hello?
HAZEL
WHat's going on Mom?
ESTELLE
HE just hung up. Someone's buried Marie alive.
HAZEL
CAsino Killer. Mom, call the police right now.
