Milkbox Review #1:memo:

Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances

It is a group that emerged as one of the oldest resolutions of the Human Rights Committee. It is considered one of the first special procedures that this part of the organization carried out and, as established by OHCHR specialists, it was decided to "establish, by a period of one year, a Working Group composed of five of its members, acting as experts on an individual basis, to examine issues relating to enforced or involuntary disappearances of people".

Its main objective is to closely monitor the global phenomenon observed in forced disappearances that, consequently, are considered a serious violation of human rights. Also, it wants to provide assistance to family members in order to help them find out the whereabouts of these people.

This group is made up of several organs of the UN and, since February 29, 1980; it has as a duty to receive and examine the reports of disappearances presented by relatives of affected persons, authorities and even NGOs, in order to transmit the information to the government and supervise that it complies with the processes demanded to be followed in those cases.
