😢 Torn Dreams #6 - Alejandro Bello 👪

On March 9, 1914, Lieutenant Alejandro Bello Silva, one of the pioneers of Chilean aviation, opted for his official aviator title; to obtain it, he had to complete a circuit of about 48 hours of flight, something that at that time represented a certain danger, since the pilots didn't have complete panels to control their ships with the technological precision of modern times.

He, along with other lieutenants, undertook the mission, which at first was impeded by the thick fog that made it impossible to see through. A second chance was right there for him, but this time only Lieutenant Alejandro Bello and his colleague Tucapel Ponce remained steady on the air. Ponce always recognized Bello's plane flying right in front of him, until, in an instant of forgetfulness and a subsequent forced landing due to lack of fuel, he lost track of him.

Once on the ground, Ponce immediately asked for his mate Bello, but never heard of the man or his plane. The captain in charge of supervising the test reported the disappearance of Alejandro Bello, who was searched on sea and land. Military aviation tried to find him tirelessly for ten days without any result.

The competent authorities presume that the potential aviator fell into the water, while other people claimed to have witnessed a large explosion on a hill. Even more imaginative hypotheses point to an extraterrestrial activity or an interdimensional trip.

Today, more than 104 years of disappearing mysteriously among the clouds, Alejandro Bello became part of the Chilean culture; even, due to its history, the saying "more lost than Lieutenant Bello" was created.
