Want to Learn more about the Therapeutic Potential of Psychedelics?steemCreated with Sketch.

in #psychedelic6 years ago (edited)

These days I seem to be having more and more conversations with people about the amazing therapeutic potential of psychedelics. I am constantly recommending one website (How to Use Psychedelics) that I had stumbled across a couple of years ago that does a very nice job of making this a more accessible area for people who may not have any recreational experience with such drugs, and therefore would understandably perhaps not even know where to begin, and maybe even have quite a lot of fear of the unknown. It's also a very useful resource for people who may have recreational / party-setting experience but might not be too sure about how to go about putting these tools to use to unleash their therapeutic potential.

Overview of the website

Besides offering some introductory information and links to various resources, the site is usefully divided into step-by-step guides for each of five psychedelics, with further sections on specific objectives of healing and growth.

The step-by-step guides encompass:
Mushrooms
Marijuana
MDMA
LSD
Ketamine

And there are separate sections for advice on the healing of:

Depression
Anxiety
PTSD
PTSD and Veterans
Racism / Sexism
Quit Smoking
Addiction
Cluster Headaches
Illness / End of Life

And an additional two sections about self growth:

Problem Solving
Art and Creativity

Take it as it is

I came across this website back in 2015, and I do wonder if it has been up-dated within the last two years. For example I don't see that it has been up-dated with any guides as regards micro-dosing, which I would have presumed would be a given considering the attention that has received more recently. I also note that indigenous psychedelics such as ayahuasca and peiote are conspicuous by their absence. They do say that they are interested in adding sections about ibogaine, ayahuasca, salvia, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD, social anxiety, and other topics, so if you are an expert on any of these perhaps you can contribute. I think it would be really interesting as well to bring together information on how to use such gifts in a more sacred context. For example, I think marijuana is a prime contestant to be honored with a more sacred use, for example using in conjunction with practice of an active meditation or sound therapy.

Anyhow, I guess one shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, and it should be appreciated for what it is. It has not been set up by any institution or official organisation, but rather a group of friends who have all benefited in various ways from psychedelics and wished to pool and share their knowledge and experience, consolidating responsible and safe information about these amazing tools. For a more official site that is dedicated to psychedelic research, see MAPS.

So having said that, PLEASE NOTE:
"This site does not constitute medical advice and, as with any supplement or lifestyle change, you should talk to your doctor first and be extremely aware of how your other health conditions, medicines, and supplements, may impact your decisions."

Exciting Frontier

Research on psychedelics is an exciting new frontier as barriers to official research is slowly being lifted and decades long stigmas are slowly disintegrating. Perhaps browsing these kinds of sites you might see a use for this technology to improve your own life and you will look more into it. Besides there being much more information available regarding the therapeutic use of psychedelics, it's interesting that such substances are also becoming increasingly accessible, it doesn't take much Googling to figure out how to access the darknet and have anything from MDMA to ketamine ordered directly to your door by the postal service (I am not recommending this, I'm just making a chin-rubbing observation!).

Anyway, I wish lots of healing to all, whatever way you wish to go about it!

Mdma, Ketamine and marihuana in psychedelic category? This is going to be dictionary stuff but practically, i would place mushrooms/lsd in that category and nothing else...

Mushrooms/lsd are the more obviously classic psychedelic substances. But all the above mentioned substances could be classed as psychedelic, although a search on the internet will turn up many a forum where it is being debated back and forth that one or the other is or isn't. Here's quite an dinteresting video discussing the meaning of psychedelic from the MAPS site.

Definition from Cambridge Universirty Dictionary: Psychedelic: (of a drug) causing effects on the mind, such as feelings of deep understanding or unusually strong experiences of colour , sound, taste, and touch

I really enjoyed reading this post and much appreciate the website you recommended! Thank you very much for sharing you opinion, discoveries and advice with us! I think the benefits of psychedelics and their potential should become more present to peoples minds so the stigmatas can finally be dropped. So people finally can benefit from the psychedelic substances and find healing and explore their consciousness.
I love reading books about the therapeutic use of psychedelics such as books from Dr. Stanislav Grof who treated his Patients with LSD as it still used to be legal. :)

The MAPS research is astounding and so promising! The PTSD research on MDMA with therapy makes me want to cry because I don’t understand why we continue allowing people to suffer like this when there is a true and real promise. My husband is military and I’ve seen (not him but friends) how PTSD can affect daily life and this could be a game changer.

If you're interested to learn more about some alternative ways of treating PTSD I can send you some books, just send me a message in steem chat... I'm specifically thinking of one about ayahuasca that I have but have a few others too. Yes it is really exciting that the restrictions on psychedelic research are finally lifting!

Thanks! I’m not familiar yet with Steem chat. Is it an external app?

Yes, but it's accessible via the menu in the top right. You need to register but then it's easily accessible afterwards. You can search people by their steemit usernames

Baring in mind if they haven't registered there then they won't appear when you search. I think there's different thematic chat rooms and stuff inside it, to be honest I haven't quit got my head around it, I've only used it to PM people.

Really nice information for a newbie like me :) I've posted my introductory blog yesterday. Hope you like it 👍

Seria legal se você postasse tambem em português #pt já que mora por aqui :)

Well written! Psychedelics (psilocybin in particular) has done wonders for my personal growth in terms of creativity, courage and sense of well-being. I just made a short blog post about it, as a matter of fact.

MAPS is a terrific organisation. Other noteworthy ones are Emma Sofia and LEAP.

You've got a new follower! Feel free to check out my profile and follow back if it resonates with you :-)
