Counter-Beliefs: How do they interfere with your life?

in #psychology6 years ago (edited)

Thought processes that eat our consciousness, stopping us from progress! There are a number of thought patterns that constantly deter us from evolving, give rise to fear of moving forward, preventing us from being happy…

...and achieve what we dream of.

1. It's not enough

Many of us remember how they stand in the school yard waiting to be selected for the team. Regardless of when you were eventually selected, if you were not the first one, you felt inferior and ignored. This process happens repeatedly throughout your life: the work that you did not get, the connection that collapsed, the electricity company's announcement that your electricity will be cut off.

It's hard to feel good and happy with yourself when things happen and you're constantly tormented by that feeling. Unfortunately, when you decide to change your life, it can prevent you from succeeding. That voice, hidden in your mind, says you are not good enough, while at the time you are doing everything you can to achieve your goals. It's as if you stepped one foot on the gas pedal, and the other on the brakes.

2. Nobody likes me

Definitely everyone has shortcomings and some people are too inclined to point them at the most inappropriate moments. You may think that you don’t know how to speak nicely and tightly or that you do not have perfect manners, or maybe you think you are not exactly in place.

It may be easy to assume that nobody likes you just because you do not have broad social contacts. Of course, like all constraining beliefs, it is automatically fulfilling. Since you believe that you do not deserve friendship, relationships, or success, you do not try to have them, and therefore you don’t. Once you realize that this perception does not correspond to reality, you can take steps to reverse its effects.

3. I don’t want to be rejected

This is a common mind-limiting and thinking constraint that affects many people with different social status and profession. It exists in a student who is afraid to ask the teacher for help; a worker who asks a colleague for support, and especially a person who is trying to invite someone to a date.

This controversy is caused mainly by fear. Nobody wants to repel it, but the fear of repulsion is often bigger and more important than the event itself. Only you can decide not to allow it to interfere with your plans.

4. Think it's impossible!

There are things that are possible, and things that we think are possible FOR US. They are often very different. While you may realize that many others have repeatedly achieved the goals you put in life, it is possible to put them in the "impossible" category because you think you lack the necessary qualities, knowledge, resources to achieve them.

This is actually related to the first counter-defense: you do not think you are good enough. This is how you sort your goals or tasks in life in the list of "this I can do" and "it can’t do it". This happens automatically at the subconscious level and often makes you reject ideas before they are still thought out. This is why we need to work on our beliefs on a different level. 5. Limited sight

People with this belief believe that there is only one solution to a particular problem or that there is only one way to accomplish a particular task. For example, you might think that the only way to make really good money is to get a good education, get a good job, and work hard on the corporate ladder.

But many people working in their own companies earn a decent deal. If your answer starts with "Yes, but ..." then you have this counter-balance, and you think that things can only happen in one way and it has to be precisely defined.

The consequence is that it limits all other opportunities for success, which can be a reliable way of achieving your goals. You say that other methods may be reliable for someone else, but for some reason they don’t work for you.

6. It will not happen anyway

This is one of the most devastating beliefs anyone may have and, unfortunately, is very common. These are the people who constantly see the worst, almost as if they are trying to protect themselves from realizing their hopes.

Often, these people believe that whatever they do, they will fail, so they don’t try or they have a very half-hearted and superficial experience. It is again an automatically-acting prophecy: they fail not because it was inevitable, but because they believed it was. It may be difficult not to be skeptical when trying something new. However, if you allow the thought that you will not get too long, you will fail many times to strengthen this conviction.

7. I'm not special

This counter-intention is the main belief that success requires a special skill or spark that you don't own. This is the feeling that you are just average and it is too much to expect that you will achieve something great.

This belief that you are not "chosen" allows you to avoid the responsibilities of making the right choice for your life. After all, you are responsible for your success, but with this thought-stuck mind you may find it easier to find something or someone to blame for, instead of making the choices you need to achieve something.

Conclusion:

If you've convinced yourself that there is no way for something to happen, you will not take the necessary action to make it happen. Accordingly, you will not get any results. Unless you have realized that something is possible and а should-try, you will not act. In either case, you may not achieve results, but if you don’t try - the chance of success is 0% due to lack of any action. Beliefs make us act or not. Not to mention that they are often dictated by fear or laziness as a kind of excuse for our inaction and make us feel good in our comfort zone. That is why some people see only problems and others see opportunities in the same situation.

The arising question is - who do you want to be?
