Rebooting The Program

in #psychology5 years ago

Hey Steemians

I've heard many people refer to our brain as a computer program and how after a while it can misfire and become corrupted. I think that since computer programs are small instances of the mind its basically just a mirror of how we feel our brain functions and hwy certain principles can be attributed to both a mind and a computer program.

A self improving operating system

Even as a kid, I always thought my brain worked differently to other kids, that we do accept information the same but I processed mine differently. I didn't really understand it back then, it was just a thought I had.

As I grew older I stuck to this ideal and when it came to making a decision I've always opted for the tougher route, partly to challenge myself but also because I enjoy different experiences and the opportunity to learn and expand my mind.

Just because I do have instances where I think differently it doesn't mean i'm not part of common problems or dealing with issues the way others do. We learn from those around us and we will then tend to react as they would instead of formulating your own response.

When you're emotive your basic programming kicks in to play and because its not been coded and used its often full of bugs and your reactions are less than favourable to yourself and other parties involved.

I think that you need to take areas of your mind you're having issues with and take time out to explore them, to bug check, find the faults, why they don't align with your values and reprogram it to match your new perceptions. Like computers need various updaes and upgrades, so do you!

A little inspiration

I found this really interesting video the other day about how your mind works and how to train it and I watch it from time to time to remind myself when I try to slip back into old habits. Its by no means easy, the comfort you get from old habits is so cosy, so familiar that the slightest weakness can pull you back in

Rebooting your operating system

The modern world has made us lazy and we want everything spoon fed to us and then told we are special for doing what is expected of us.

Having things come so easy wires our brain for instant gratification and waiting makes us anxious and building something meaningful when its hard seems way worse than living without it.

We often wait for things like pain, suffering and heart break to kick us into action. Who among us is not guilty of regretting taking that job overseas, committing to that sport, giving up a person you cared for deeply.

Taking action only when we hurt gives the brain the idea we should coast until such situations happen and everything is fine, when it is not. Those situations don't happen over night, they happen due to a series of events you failed to stop, realise or action, which is a failure in your programming.

Even when things are going well, you need to still evaluate your programming and make sure you're sticking to your values and you're improving as a person.

How I plan to do it

But Che, I have all this shit I have to deal with daily how do I even get started. That my friend is up to you. For me I've decided to give up my free time to work ahead for at least 3 months.

This will give me enough time to sit back each day and take some time out without feeling guilty to change my mind, my routine and make changes that I feel will be positive ones.

Have your say

So whats your 2 cents on my latest brain fart? Likey or no likey?
