RE: Narcissist, Psychopath, or Sociopath: How To Spot The Differences

in #psychology6 years ago (edited)

We need more studies about what causes people to become a sociopath. We can't just try and quarantine them, and cut them our of our lives. Can we get high-risk individuals proper therapy before they become a sociopath? I blame the school system. Institutional education is heavily skewed towards mechanized learning. They are drowning students to death, having them memorize abstract facts for tests. Proper education needs to diversify into character development, improving social skills, and teaching personal responsibility.

I am not sure you can quarantine somebody without due cause.

But definitely it would be great to be able to detect sociopaths - or, better yet, psychopaths as they are usually better camouflaged. Hopefully, detection would be a stepping stone on the path towards effective intervention of some sort.

I mean culturally quarantine them. We're told not to give them the time of day, but isolation can make people worse. We got to pay attention to our youth. It's a lot easier to prevent a sociopath, than try and treat a sociopath in adulthood.

A lot of bad examples are permitted in our media. Look at the cess pool Hollywood has become. Reality TV shows encourage narcissistic behavior. Paul Joseph Watson, provides great evidence of this. He does a great job defining the problem.
