RE: Let’s talk about social isolation

in #psychology6 years ago

I really didn't think too much about this at first. My initial thought is that each of us are fighting our own battles, and I believe that somehow those who seemed struggling now can find their own way out someday, they just need to snap out of the drama.

Until, my sister told me that she's been struggling with some kind of depression. It was tough, and honestly I don't understand or know a lot about these things, or worse how to handle such things. But at least, I was beginning to look at it in a much clearer perspective and will no longer downplay any signs of depression knowing that externally people may seemed great but within themselves, and their own minds, they are fighting a war.

Thanks for this detailed info @dedicatedguy. Cheers!

Yep, to show a positive attitude while internally dealing with depressive thoughts is quite commons.

A lot of suicides are a surprise because the person didn't show any symptom of depression, and in a way, it makes sense, because it can be easier to simply pretend being ok, than to deal with all the repercussions of accepting you have a serious problem.
