Exactly right @clayrawlings. Not funny but necessary stages one must pass through to grow up. If a child continues to get all the pats on the back and praises, he/she would most likely drift to the wrong decisions which might ended up for him/her to be very unhappy in life
Though some of the good pats will serve as an encouragement to the person but the absence of it will make the person stronger.
