The Art of Shahram Narzeri (1958)
Good morning dears! Today I share with you a little of the art of Shahram Narzeri, the Kurdish Iranian tenor, from the Quermanxa, Iranian province bordering Iraq.
From the Kurdish family, he was the first singer to incorporate the poetry of Jalaladim Muhammad Rumi (1207 - 1273) into Iranian music. His art reaffirmed the values of Sufi music in both Persian classical music and Kurdish music, and with a substantial work of cultural significance, introduced the music of his land in the West.
The New York Times nicknamed him as a "Rouxino Persa," and the Christian Science Monitor of "Pavarotti of Iran." His influences are in the music of Jalil Shahnaz, Hossein Alizadeh, Jalal Zolfonoun and Faramarz Payvar. In 2007, he was awarded with a Medal by the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres of the Government of France, and won the Lifetime Cultural Heritage Award by the Asia Society.
He has released more than forty albums so far; The album "Gol'eh Sad Barg" (The Flower of a Hundred Leaves) was the best selling Persian and Sufi classical music record.
Encouraged by his mother as a child, he had among his teachers the most renowned masters of traditional Iranian music, including Abdollah Davami, Nourali Boroumand and Mahmood Karimi. At the age of eleven he appeared on television for the first time, with a loyal fan base, over the last decades has performed in the main stages of the world, and in the most varied formations.
