To Everything There Is a Season
For Every Season Turn, Turn, Turn....
The male southern red bishop has eclipse plumage, meaning it changes colour during the breeding season.
Southern Red Bishop (Afrikaans: Rooivink) a bird that made me think of the song title used, a wonderful reminder, we have time, we change alter course and re-navigate life a couple of times, this little bird does a dramatic change.
Male redhead darting in and out of reeds, showing dominance, luring his female audience, oh no shame his is a harem! He furiously builds a few nests, then hopes for the best, it maybe his turn in life for more than one wife.
His nest is sturdy in build, he will defend his territory like a gladiator vying for female attention, attractive flaming redhead against lustrous black chest and beak, a busy season waiting his turn, a dashingly handsome fellow isn't he.
Turn, Turn, Turn ~ The Byrds (Remember this song?)

Fishing the river, Grey Heron is recognizable by long S-shaped neck, dagger-like bill and long legs. Using feet to find a treat treading the river bed, quite possible to harpoon a fish swimming past with dagger-like bill, unleashing speed with long S-shaped neck.
Grey Herons eat meat, no vegetarian diet in their world, quite international flyers who have been around for a long time. Similar but not the same, related to Great Blue Heron found in America.
By what I understand from reading, both Blue and Grey Heron breed in the North and make residence down in the South, no passports required, don't have to move if conditions are good. Perhaps you recognize them, let me know.

There are such beautiful birds in Africa! Which is to be expected, I guess, since Africa has so many creatures that are found nowhere else on the planet.
I do remember the song!
Each region has something different to offer, living away from big cities perhaps we just notice them more @free-reign have an awesome weekend.

How colourful they are! :)
Only during mating season you cannot miss them out on the reeds @gabrielatravels
What cool shots and such beautiful Birds, and now I have that song in my head, from just reading the title but its a greta song so I do not mind that at all :)
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)
Glad the song stuck around, unlike the bishop bird who only looks like a dashing devil during mating season.
Ohh yeah I find that with most birds they are always moving so fast I seldom get shots of them
Both have wonderful colours, I like birds with vibrant colour, not like over here all so dull...
Oh birds can never be dull, creep in closer and you will see a multitude of colours in their wings. Thanks for visiting and have a lovely weekend.
Happy weekend to you too!
Well, everything was new for me to Learn, Learn, Learn...
Ha ha @manoldonchev life is learning, never stops!
A dashingly handsome fellow, indeed! Great photos.
The heron looks a lot like our Great Blue Heron! Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos with @featheredfriday!
By what I read these Heron's are very similar striking big birds. Little bishop male birds are handsome during mating season, thanks for visiting @melinda010100, wishing you a wonderful weekend in nature.
Another rainy weekend here... This dark dreary weather is tiring.

Birds always offer something, each has character and charm.
Have a great day @thereikiforest thanks for visiting.
First three photographs are awesome. Nicely captured. Good content
Bishop bird is relatively small and always in the reeds, quite a shy bird making it difficult to get up closer. Thanks for visiting and appreciating the captures I managed to get @engrsayful
One of my absolute favourite songs, lovely photos and post @joanstewart!
Something that happens every so often, start writing and song pops into my head, now I am sharing them for all to enjoy @lizelle have a wonderful weekend.
