Basque whalers/Balleneros vascos

Basque whalers

Formerly when the whale was essential for life.
The Basque sailors went to the sea hunting for whales.
It is said that they arrived in the northeastern part of Canada
Around the year 1375.
Long before Christopher Columbus did it
But you can not prove it.
Jacques Cartier gave name to Canada and united it to the French colony.
In your navigation charts I point:
"In those remote waters I found a thousand Basques fishing for cod."
They say that the Basque whalers were very prepared people and without fear.
Experts in the seas and whale hunting.
My opinion is:
that all those that went out to sea in distant times and in those that we live today.
They are brave men and if you hurry me conquerors.
Go out to sea in those boats that today you look like walnut shells.
To face the great cetacean, with the means they had.
Then the whale was the gold of the sea.
Since its layer of fat served for a thousand things.
From oil to the lamps, which said that there was no smell and the making of soaps.
Not counting his flesh and bones.
With the carved bones they built very elaborate furniture
Even with their beards they made beautiful corsets for the ladies.
All of it was income.
Very understandable in times of scarcity and without means of other subjects.
But the danger was also very great as reflected in these photographs.

Balleneros vascos

Today almost in danger of extinction.
Not because of hunger or lack of raw material.
But for the greed of man and his pleasure.
Now that's a shame. Killing our planet for something exotic.
