A winter storm packing heavy rain and snow on Tuesday turned streets in Lebanon into rivers of water and mud and paralyzed parts of the country. Storm Norma hit Lebanon with heavy rains, snowfall, and freezing temperatures and damaged several Syrian refugee camps in the country. Thousands are in need of emergency assistance.

RED ALERT issued across Europe as heavy snow continues while a 16-year-old German-Australian boy is killed in an avalanche while skiing with his parents in Austria.

Europe's snow chaos has deepened again with hundreds of people trapped after roads were buried by avalanches.

The highest red warnings are in place in Germany and Austria with up to six more feet of snow expected before the weekend.

At least 17 people have died amid the weather chaos including a 16-year-old German-Australian boy who was killed on a ski slope in Austria.

According to Süddeutsche Zeitung the boy's parents and brother saw him buried under the snow in the ski village of St. Anton am Arlberg on Wednesday afternoon.

Austria could face 10 feet of snow in the next few days as fierce winter weather continues to strike central Europe this week.

Parts of Austria have already had more snow this month than they usually do in the whole of January, with more snow expected before the weekend.

The tourist season in the Alps has also been hit with more than 1,000 miles of ski slope and 450 ski lifts closed because of the weather.

The cold weather has also reached Greece where temperatures reached as low as -9F (-23C) in the city of Florina on Tuesday night.
