Raksha Bandhan: The Special Ocassion

Hello Steemians,

Aarti_plate_Raksha_Bandhan_India.jpg

Today we are celebrating Raksha Bandhan in India. It is a Beautiful celebration, it is a festival that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters in India, in the tradition of Sanatana Dharma, The Hindu tradition. Raksha Bandhan means " the bond of protection". According to this tradition in India, A sister performs Aarti and ties a string which is called "Rakhi" to her brother. In return she takes a vow from her brother that he will protect her, he will guide her, he will guard her for the rest of his life. In this occasion, sister prays for the Wellness of her brother.

Rakshabandhan is not meant only for their own brother or sisters, it is for the person(he/she) who actually bares the emotion towards another person (he/she) like a brother or a sister.

According to Hindu Mythology. Lord Sri Krishna had an Aunt by name Shrutha Devi, who had given birth to an unhealthy ugly boy baby. His name was Shishupal. The Saints told Shrutha Devi that, the touch from the person which makes her baby healthy & beautiful, he will be killed by the same person in future. One fine day, Lord Sri Krishna came to his Aunt's house, at the moment he took the baby in his arms, the baby became healthy and beautiful. Shruta Devi was very happy by the change in her baby, at the same time she was worried about her son getting killed by Lord Krishna. Knowing this, she took a promise from Lord Sri Krishna, that Lord krishna will not punish her son for any of his blunders. Lord Sri Krishna promised her that he will not punish her son till he commits hundred Sins, once he commits his first sin after hundred, will punish her son.

In future Shishupal became the prince of a province named Chedi. He had grown into a cruel Prince. He was not good to his citizens, instead he was a threat to his citizens. In such case, Shishupal who also was the relative of Lord Sri Krishna, had threatened Lord Sri Krishna in various occasions. Wealth Shishupal had threatened Lord Sri Krishna in front of his royal Court where all his ministers were present. This had crossed hundred sins of Shishupal. So Krishna got wild and killed Shishupal with his Sudarshan Chakra. While delivering his Sudarshan he had hurt his fore finger and it was bleeding. Seeing this everybody started to ruffle around to stop the blood. In such condition, Draupadi tore a bit of her saree and tied a knot on the fore finger of Lord Krishna which stopped the blood. In turn, lord Sri Krishna promised Draupadi to help her in her most difficult situations. By this the tradition of Raksha Bandhan actually started.

After that, when Kauravas tried to insult Draupadi by pulling her saree in the royal court as Pandavas had lost Draupadi in the game. Lord Sri Krishna helped Draupadi to keep his promise. From that time the sisters tie Rakhi to their brothers. Brothers promise the sisters you guard them for the rest of the life. On the occasion of the full moon day of the Shravan month, some people change their Yagnopavit. On this day in Orissa and West Bengal, devotees keep the idols of Radha and Krishna in the swing and swing them for the betterment. It's also called Jhulan Purnima. in some parts of North India people start glowing the wheat grains on these parts it is called kajari Purnima. Its called narali purnima in Kerala and Maharashtra on this occasion the pray ocean God.

Rakshabandhan is celebrated all over India without the discrimination of caste Creed or gender. Hope this article educate our Indian youth about Raksha Bandhan.

Cheers !!!
