This "black Ariel" controversy is dumb (and also fake)

in #rant5 years ago

In the latest FB pointless arguments among strangers a particularly stupid topic has been brought to the forefront and I find this one especially stupid because of the fact that there really isn't anyone arguing on one side, but that doesn't stop the virtue-signaling SJW's from being very loud about "their side."

So a girl I have never heard of named Halle Bailey has been cast in the lead role of Ariel in an upcoming live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" and myself and a VAST majority of other people in the world this was an epic "meh" moment. There wasn't anyone of note that was complaining about this decision. However, right on cue the race-baiters of the internet got to work on creating a fake controversy so they can fuel the fire of fake racism in America.

A number of trash news outlets did features on how there was "widespread racism" over Disney's decision to have a black star in the upcoming Little Mermaid film. Millions upon millions of racists are taking to the internet to spew their white supremacy message! The only problem was there is nothing of the sort going on.

BET compiled a list of about 10 tweets from people who were upset about Ariel being black. 2 of the people had less than 10 followers and zero retweets, 2 of the people weren't white, all of the people were unknowns and the combined total of retweets was less than 20. So, considering that BET has an objective to find the most egregious offenders, doesn't this kind of maybe indicate that there really isn't anything to see here?

That isn't good enough for the virtue-signalling masses on FB though. These people need a cause and a reason to feel as though they are better than other people. They send out lecturing posts to their friends because why? Who are you trying to convince?

Some of these race-baiting, fake-outrage-clickbait producing, garbage "news" outlets will repost memes that were found on 9-GAG and attempt to suggest that this is a "sure sign of racism in America." To these people I say you are either profoundly ignorant or profoundly dishonest but probably a mixture of both.

These "investigative journalists" dont realize that 9-gag is almost entirely a bunch of memes specifically designed to get a rise out of people. At least one good thing came out of all this and this is that a petition has been going around to cast Guy Fieri as Ursula

you have to admit that there is a striking resemblance

For me, when stuff like this comes to the forefront and is used as an example of racism in America it kind of proves to me that there is such a small problem with actual racism in America that the SJW's have to invent it where it isn't.

Sort:

We live in a era in which we are being actively manipulated by an elite. They want us to think a certain way, in the end the goal is for them to remain in power.
