I know I have been a little less present on my cruise around Steem lately but... WTF did I just read at the TOP of Trending? I was logging into busy which meant that the front page was Trending. somewhere I don't spend a lot of time and saw a, well, I saw some, umm.. I don't know what the hell it was and I after reading, I still don't know.
Let me quote some passages:

This post should be valued at LESS THAN ZERO yet even after a fair few flags (including mine), is still sitting at the top of Trending with $1,521.58 coming from the pool. Whoever thinks that this post is worth this much has got to be deluded and anyone who supports this kind of nonsense at Steem should be ashamed. Sure, maybe there is a space for bidbots but, really - Have they no shame at all about what they promote?
Firstly, the Trending should SPONTANEOUSLY MORPH into a promoted tab. Trending is something that is about community support and this just does not have it.
THEORISTS say that it is posts like these that LOWER humanity's spiritual INTELLIGENCE. I hope those who upvoted it will go and buy this MORONIC GOLD for $119.95 and take it in large enough quantities to HEAR THE SOUND of someone laughing all the way to the BANK.

Some people might be happy with the SBD being spent on shit like this but, what they don't factor in is all the SBD that won't be spent by the people who see shit like this at the top of what we have labelled Trending. As said, trending is about community support and to someone coming into the platform for the first time, this is what they think this community supports.
At the moment, Trending it self means little as does user retention in my opinion for the most part but, this is what the largest Steem Power users think is valuable. This post for your upvoting/flagging pleasure right here. This is what millions and millions of Steem stake think is useful to the system because, that is what they were paid to do.
The code allows it but, what about people's own moral compass or is all the SBD just too much of a MAGNETIC PULL to consider that there should be SOME limits to what their BUSINESS is willing to SUPPORT
Meh, perhaps I should buy some of this nonsense but I have to say, this isn't a glowing endorsement from the shiller.
I was taking higher dosages every day for about 10 days, and I decided to stop, because I already see and hear enough bells and whistles in my reality lol, and I was feeling something happening.
I wonder what he felt? Perhaps it was the feeling of his POCKETS filling with the money of the deceived.

Ha ha! I don't use trending option, so I did not realize the true state of this platform. It is not at all surprising that the quality of content does not meet your higher standards; since when have popular media that pander to the lowest common denominator produced anything of quality?
In the US, there was a television program called Jerry Springer Show that produced the lowest quality trash ever televised till that time. The program performed fabulously financially because it garnered one of the largest viewership for its time slot. Jerry Springer for a year or two produced quality material for his television program with little financial success, and by accident, discovered that he can earn more money by pandering to the ignorance, vulgarity, and stupidity of the public. It is much like the Sun continuing to operate profitably with its below average "journalism," as long as it prints photos of big-breasted women along with "news."

I think the core issue is obviously staring at us in the face, as is the solution. More people need to be taking:

The guy paid and got his day of glory on top of trending, he got his message out. Now the post should be taken down and the payout distributed to all who flagged the post.
As long as the code allows it, there are people who use it solely to their own benefit. Use money to upvote themselves and don't give a fuck about other people or quality content. Or if not quality, at least content that isn't a complete lie.
I've seen people write about this kind of things before and in my understanding it is possible to make the code serve us not so greedy people better.
So how many accounts or people does it take to demand the code to change so that it really is changed and evolves into something better?
I think that was a rhetorical question. Maybe.
@ned has already acknowledged that the current model of Steem has failed at separating good content from bad. Steemit Inc is working on it. Smart Media Tokens and Oracles will be used to test curation models including but not limited to account based voting until something that works for any given purpose is found. An Oracle is basically a system of whitelists and blacklists that allows, hopefully, for telling real people from bots and alt accounts from real ones.

There is plenty of crap like this everyday. And some people are gullible to this extent. I recently saw a video about ketchup that talked about how it is made from blood, urine and coke and it was very well made. There is genuine BS being floated around. Its just that whenever i come across it, it is usually resteemed by bota and earnings usually dont go beyond 350 bucks. But i agree, such posts should make it mandatory to spend sbd, not earn it. Actually, on second thoughts, it just shouldnt be there.
