Ranting On The Black Church (September 2018)

in #rant6 years ago (edited)

The Black Church; going to get 'more' into that on here ... Too many of us like to blame Pastors, the same way we blame Presidents; as if there aren't entire 'nations' or 'congregations' that PUT certain People in Positions of Power.....

Some of you will catch that later....

I've been sharing a few issues I"m having with the 'newly elected Pastor' at my church; where I grew up; where my Grandmother served as an Usher for most of her life; where my mother and father have served for most of their lives ::: where I find myself in service ... for longer than I Planned.

I see now, why I'm still here - the church needs people like me - people like my moms and pops -- b/c with out us, Our Church would be like so many churches; with Pastors running over the congregation; spending up all the money, unwisely; and putting their church in Financial Jeopardy - rendering them unable to "help" the community in any way, shape or fashion.

We sit around blaming the Pastors though; without realizing the Membership allowed it; Without understanding the Membership often, encouraged it, went along with it, and told them selves, "He was sent by God" .... to justify the ignorant decisions they allow him to make;

The reality of the situation is, most folks who go to Church every single week, aren't Reading that bible or working on that Personal Walk with God; No relationship is being developed, they do not FEEL the spirit moving, or telling them anything; The DEVIL has slipped into the Pulpits of black Churches around America and the SAINTS in the SEATS have not noticed --- or, they have noticed, and have decided that since "they" are not perfect, that they cannot expect perfection from the Preacher either............ which, is realistic ... however ... together the entire congregation 'should' be walking a path of betterment; of improvement; and not one of Comfort and Contentment....

However, that is what I see; The choir just wants to sing their songs; They check out when the Pastor is preaching, and aren't engaged in what goes on 'during the week' --- Trustees on the board, approving poor financial decisions, because they just want to hurry up and get the meeting over with; so they can get back home; Deacons, simply enjoying being 'seen' and getting to sit in Front - prime position to flirt with the single Ladies and widows of the Church - entirely off their Position, entirely off Mission --

This is what goes on Inside far too many black Churches. We sit around pointing fingers, rather than understanding who's 'job' it is to do what. Just like our 'nation', most churches are governed with 3 branches. Each are set up to work as Checks and Balances. When those branches are not checking, or balancing, the ultimate decider are the people of the church - who can make decisions to move people OUT of those positions.

As churchgoers, and tithers - you have the power; Because this is where the trustees, and deacons tend to come from. The body of the church is weak right now, and not enough people understand their own, personal power. The evidence is found in the blaming of Pastor's; rather than real discussions about The Responsibilities of Church Congregations.

Comments on the Video I shared in this Post ::

I do not 'fully agree' with blaming it all on 'one gender' - I want to repeat what I said in the text of the article, as that came from me -- the 'congregation' which is made up of both men, and women. Men are lacking from these congregations, and that absolutely is having an impact on the overall effectiveness of the Black churches, within our communities. Gotta get back to taking care of business.
