Song of the day - Sonata Representiva by Biber

This is my submission for the Song of the Day by @recordpool.

The Baroque era was a time of great experimentation with sounds and instruments. This particular composition by Biber (the other composer from Salzburg, the more famous one being Mozart), is a stroll through the various animals of the countryside and the ways that a violin can try and imitate the sounds of the animals. Of particular note are the frog, rooster and cat!

It is always a great piece to have in your repertoire, as most people don't expect the weird and wonderful sounds that you can get out of your instrument if you are just being creative enough! There are many performances online, where the performers just don't dare to make "nasty" sounds, and so the imitations of the frog and other animals just sound like a violin. I was able to find this particular performance though, and the frog is pretty good. Although, I have my own technique for this!

The composers of this earlier period of the Baroque were quite fond of imitations as a trick... and so you have other compositions imitating other animals and even one that imitates a stutterer!
