13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”
15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.
18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”
20 Then he sternly warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

The Message:
Professing to be a child of God is one thing but knowing God is another thing. Not all who pray and sing in church know God personally. Jesus’ disciples had been with Him for some time, yet He wanted to know not just people’s opinion of Him but also their own opinion of Him. He discovered that the people have the wrong view of His person, but Peter, one of His disciples, had the revelation of Christ’s personality.
A lot of people are still confused about the person of Christ. They ask many questions as to who Christ is and they look up to the believers to supply answer that is born out of their personal revelation of Christ. However, it is disappointing that a lot of believers have not had the understanding of the person of Christ in their lives. They read the Bible and pray to God out of conformity and not understanding. We must seek to have a personal encounter with Christ, so that we can claim to know Him beyond what is preached on the pulpit. When we have this we will be able to give answers when we are asked about our faith. The revelation Christ’s personality as the Son of God is the bedrock of other revelations of God.

You are right @egbujorvictor many people even believe that to make heaven you must a churchgoer. No one cares if you are a sinner, as long as you are a regular church member...you are a saint.
...that is absurd. Let all men have personal relationship with God. The moment they start this relationship, they will get to the point where they wont be able to do things without doing his will.
