Lets look if we can find a Pattern in the book of James. And lets try to find a purpose for this book

Pattern: In James 1:2 he uses: My brethren; James 2:1 and in James 2:14 What does it profit my brethren? He keeps repeating that he is talking to brothers in the faith.

Point: He is writing to people already saved. The purpose of chapter 2 is to get saved people to do some work. Get to work: spread the gospel and do charity etc.

Is the purpose of this chapter then to get a unsaved person saved? No! It is generally twisted to say you have to have works to be saved and that faith alone can not save you. Catholics, orthodox, Calvinist and Lordship Salvation, they all run to this interpretation.

He is not talking about being justified in the sight of God, but in the sight of our fellow man. They will determine in their mind if we have faith by looking to our works. Because they cant see our faith. Faith is a metaphysical idea and can't be seen.

We are saved simply by believing in Jesus and no works can save you or can be added to his sacrifice. Have a blessed day.

Verses I would like to cover next:

  1. Mark 16:16 Which seems to teach baptism is required for salvation
  2. John 6 For the Catholics and Orthodox. This is simply a foolish one.

Please Comment any hard verses you would like me to deal with. Verses that seems to say that we need to either repent of our sins or do any works to be saved. These include verses that seem to require obedience, baptism etc. Remember to follow and please leave like if you enjoyed!
