Cult Of Personality

Cult Of Personality

Is the excessive worship and flattery of a living, charismatic, and usually unipersonal leader. Is an elevation to religious dimensions of charismatic leaders in society or politics. The phenomenon is as old as man himself, history shows us that in ancient times it developed with Caesar in the Roman Empire, in the Soviet Union with Joseph Stalin; in Germany with Adolf Hitler; in Iraq with Saddam Hussein, among others. Since then, the term has been used pejoratively against a leader or leader who behaves and manifests political symptoms prone to personality cult.

That being said, why do we need this figures?

Societies have had to pay a high political and social cost for worshipping the personality of a political or religious leader. Some sectors of society often elevate the leader of a religion to an almost sacred, unquestionable and infallible position, in terms of everything he says and does. These sectors ignore that the leader to whom they worship is a human being, with human imperfections just like any one of us, for which reason it is fallible, he or she can be mistaken in their relations with their fellow men, who inherently, in a more or less inherent way, carries the seed of selfishness, envy, ambitions, egocentrism, self-centeredness and selfishness.

The German people paid a high cost in destruction and death for worshipping Adolf Hitler, who initiated the Second World War in Europe; the conflict claimed 50 million victims. Germany, devastated, set the quota of ten million Germans. The same happened in Italy, with the dictator Benito Mussolini, who integrated the axis of fascist countries with Germany and Japan. The most recent case of personality cult took place in Iraq, with Saddam Hussein; he purged his party, Baas, and sentenced 40 of its members to death; the condemned, in his execution, threw Saddam alive. The consequences of the cult of Saddam Hussein's personality are still felt by the Iraqi people, with the invasion of the United States in 2003, the death of 100.000 Iraqis, the destruction of the country, negative economic indicators, etc.

Right now we have the pope in Colombia a person whose political ideology flirts more with socialism and communism than with democracy. The reason why he visits this country? Support the signing of a "Peace Agreement" between the FARC guerrilla and the Colombian government. Although it sounds beautiful in theory the hidden reality is that behind the peace agreement there are a great number of crimes that will not be punished and the surrender of part of the Colombian politics to a group of murderers, this is the equivalent of being kidnapped in your own home by a group of thieves and finding as the only way out to share your home with them.

It is sad that to give legitimacy to such a far-fetched process, such figures as the pope are used, but it is our fault for failing to create societies that are sufficiently educated and reasonable enough to make decisions for themselves.

That is why I believe so much in technology as a liberating weapon of humanity, that is why decentralized networks such as the Blockchain will open the way to a more just society because it will eventually bring as a consequence the disappearance of the cult of personality.
