How often do we think about which password to choose? As the modern studies show, more than 70% of the population introduces exactly those figures that do not need to be memorized: date of birthday, telephone number, important dates etc. This is a bad identification solution, because all this information, you can find in social networks. More than half of hacker attacks begin with this simple information. Moreover, the servers themselves, where passwords are stored, cannot be called a reliable repository, because they work on the same principle.

In order to create a secure entrance to the private office and do not remember all passwords in 2015, Ukrainian programmers launched the REMME project, whose main goal is getting away from passwords, replacing them with personal certificates.

How this will work and what are the benefits?

Initially, each device will be awarded a personal SSL certificate, for each person. The certificate itself will be stored within the blockchain (a chain of blocks that can be stored separately from each other). This solution allows you to store parts of the password in different cells, thereby making it impossible to steal the entire password. The project itself has the following advantages:

  • the central server of service become not relevant, making identification almost instantaneous;
  • hack or pick up a password - just impossible;
  • complete anonymity is achieved;
  • enter of wrong data practically excluded;
  • entrance to the private office is possible for any technique with authentication of 2 factors.
  • moreover, according to one of the founders, Catherine Pospelova, in the future the platform should exclude the need to remember passwords in general, thereby making an enter to personal page for 1 click.

How can this be used?

The motto of this project is: «Input in one click!». It is on this principle that all technology will be based. It is assumed that any input to a personal web page will be carried out by connecting a personal device, which subsequently will give access to the data. For many it may seem inconvenient, but is it convenient to enter your login and password each time?

Supporters of the old system argue that entering a password from the PC's memory is much faster and more reliable. According to recent tests on the basis of the blocker browser Emercoin Blockchain REMME - the password was not inferior to the speed of the entrance to the classic. But, its main advantage is security of data, than the old model can’t boast.

Today, the system is still updated, and supplemented by software, the purpose of which is to reduce the cost of access to pages and make access to protected data faster.

Cost of services

The exact cost of a subscription for 1 month is unknown for now. But, many ukrainian companies use this system - as the main idea of data protection. Among companies, who has already use this service are: PJSC "UKRMASH", concern "UKROBORONPROM" and company "HOTMINE".

The problems the REMME team is working on

Like in many other projects, problems have arose during the development phase. The REMME project is no exception. Today the main problems of implementation are:

  • cost of the monthly subscription (the estimated price of the service during the testing was $ 20);
  • an access speed (the process of awarding an SSL certificate during testing have took 30 minutes for 1 device);
  • an algorithm development for restoring access to data, in case the device will be lost.

Registration in the system took 30 minutes, which by today's standards is incredibly long. One of the main development points is to create a simpler algorithm that would reduce this procedure to 3 -5 minutes, which is more acceptable.

Another important issue is the price of REMME subscription. According to the social survey, more than 72% internet users are ready to risk the security of their data, but they are not ready to pay for security. Developers believe that if the price is reduced to 5$, then more than half of Internet users will agree to use this service.

Third problem is an access to recovery algorithm. The main idea involved two-factor communication with the device, in case of its loss, or its online blocking. The mechanism for disabling the device will work is still unknown. Supporters of an idea assume that users will can lock the device with help of 24-hour support service.
