Keeping an eye. I don't have anyone in my family on active duty at the moment, though, my father was Spec 4 back in the 80's, and recently my cousin served four years in the Marine Corps. Neither of them served though in wartime, or the war in Iraq that is going on right now never affected them directly. My grandfather, though, was in Vietnam, and he was adversely affected. I support all veterans, and all those who are currently serving. I don't understand the morality, or lack thereof, behind this behavior. It doesn't make sense to my good heart.

I can assure you that neither @ganjafarmer or his friends are actually veterans. They are working a scam in multiple communities posing as veterans to get donations.

Not sure what to say about that. if true, then why do something like that? And what if donations are going to the cause they say? After all, did he not say that he himself is not a veteran?
Real veterans are the targets of scams all the time. Our community has been targeted 4 times in the last 6 months.
We also have people that pretend to be veterans to get donations. This is the most aggravating part.
It's called stolen valor, and there's plenty of videos on YouTube that should get you up to speed. It's also a federal offense that carries a sentence of jail time.
Thanks for the info. I will be getting a look at this. It's nothing I've ever heard of, then again, I don't normally follow this sort of topic. I just started since I found out a lot of people talking about it here.
Can you provide some details on how @ganjafarmer was scamming people? I've met him in person and have never heard of him claiming to be a vet. He does try to provide support for homeless vets in the Portland area. He has contacted me personally for help with a suicidal vet and I gave him what numbers I could get from my old Guard unit. I can't comment on any of his friend's status, but I can't imagine him supporting someone claiming to be a vet who wasn't.
What started all of this? Every impression that I've gotten from @ganjafarmer is that he'd never use Vets or stolen valor to try to make a quick buck. Is it possible you've jumped the gun on this?
