C64 Game Memories - Revisited 30+ Years later : B.C.'s Quest for Tires

An early C64 release again, and the second of 3 games i'm going to review that are shall we say... Caveman based? Actually you could add Frak into that, which I posted about a while ago now. So it turns out there is a whole Caveman genre out there. Who knew!?

Originally released by Sierra online in the US, and marketed by Software Projects in the UK (who made Jet Set Willy) B.C.'s Quest for Tires is one of those games much like B.C Bill that is lots of fun to play, has good (for its time) graphics but is ultimately fairly simple in gameplay. Sound is also minimal, honestly nothing of note musically seems to have made its way on the C64 in its early years.

You play the part of Thor the caveman (all a bit greek to me!) and you are to rescue your girlfriend who has been kidknapped by a dinosaur (who has strangely not eaten her!)

The game is basically an on rails sideways scroller, not unlike moon patrol. You ride along on your comedy prehistoric unicycle and have to jump over ditches and logs and under tree branches. The early levels are flat and easy but the game gets progressively harder and you eventually encounter gradients, then you have to jump across rivers with turtles and the part I could never do was get dragged accross a chasm by a bird as you had to time this perfectly.

This game lasts no longer than 3 minutes from start to finish, but much like every game back then was made dang hard to drag out gametime. Infact i've only completed this once now since playing it for the first time in ages ( and having read what to do) and back in the day spent hours trying to get further. It's one of those games you get frustrated with but need to keep playing.

Quest for Tires was quite successful and spawned a sequel - Grog's Revenge which I shall make a post about soon.

Sort:

I don't think I ever played this one but I did play its sequel, Grog's Revenge...

Moon Patrol was fun. I'll give this a once over next time I dive into the C64 library.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

The early levels are flat and easy but the game gets progressively harder and you eventually encounter gradients, then you have to jump across rivers with turtles and the part I could never do was get dragged accross a chasm by a bird as you had to time this perfectly.
It should be across instead of accross.
