C64 Game Memories - Revisited 30+ Years later : Chuckie Egg

in #retro6 years ago

An early C64 platformer and one of the very first games I bought myself. Released in 1983 by A&F software, Chuckie Egg was fairly basic graphically and had limited sound with no music.

50% of all early releases must have been platform games it seems! The basic idea of the game was you were Hen house owner Harry who had to collect 12 eggs to move to the next screen before the timer ran out. Very similar in premise to Manic Miner.

You could slow the timer by eating seed positioned around the level. For such a bland looking game in which every level looks more or less the same, Chuckie Egg was incredibly addictive and fun to play.

Even with the minimal sound there was quite an iconic fast clicking sound whenever you moved your character around, I still remember that much about it all these years later.

Let's be honest, it was very much of its time and wouldn't hold my attention for more than few minutes these days. It also spawned a sequel which although not as popular, was also good but you could move freely from screen to screen (like Jet Set Willy)

Hey, thanks for sharing that! You know any other cool titles released around that time? I've been putting up lists of games for certain years with some facts about the featured ones, so far did only 1999. Thought you may have some good ones to advice that I can cover in my future lists. Hope you wouldn't mind if I use some of your content as a basis for my stuff?

Go ahead.... most of my stuff will be 1980's early games for the C64. Your post is much more indepth than mine. Good job.

How Cool!

Cool neat, yeah there's a lot more quality platformers for C64 than originally thought, at least coming from consoleland. Any cool graphic text adventures? There were alot I liked for NES like Deja Vu and Princess Tomato, would like to revisit C64 if I come across something charming or witty in that genre
