Let’s Watch with Travelgirl #8 - Think You Know Tokyo?

Hi Everyone,

I’ll be going to Japan end of the year and have started doing my research where to go and what is good to eat. It has been nearly two years since I was in Japan so want to do all the research I need to make sure I get what I want do in 1 week. I came across this travel show called “Think You Know Tokyo” 周遊東京 screened on TVB hosted by Jarvis Chow. There are 10 episodes and there have been two seasons.

The show will introduce some cool eateries, less touristy shopping outlets, cool experiences which not many people will consider trying if they go to Japan themselves. One episode I remember Jarvis taking us to an all you can eat wagyu beef buffet in Ginza. The restaurant would bring out a tasting plate of all their meat available so customers can try which one they like the most and can use the special food tag to order them for the rest of the meal.

The other memorable part of the show was the host used 500 yen to get a whole box of goodies and you have a chance to get an expensive luxury bag in the process. The host joins a special online promotion where he and around 100 other local Japanese shoppings at a secret location where they all given a box and grab as many stuff they can in a few minutes. There could be ordinary branded items or if you are lucky, get some brands that are pretty good. The biggest attraction to this exercise is you can have a chance to fight off other buyers and get a luxury bag. It was an eye-opener how this was done through this segment. I have never thought to look for something like this until I saw his show.

These are just two of the segments I love from the show. Of course there are more things to check out and I can assure you, it was definitely something to look out for. The host has prior experience hosting other shows in Hong Kong and he is fluent in Japanese. The way he describes the food and experience is something I would say at most times unlike some of the the other hosts they use the more “professional” terms when they film travel shows. I find that a bit textbook whereas this show was more casual, easy and most importantly, the topics and things he have chosen to show us I would be really interested to try.

我年底會去日本所以最近都經常看旅遊節目。剛剛看完一套叫‘周遊東京’的旅遊節目覺得好所以想推薦給大家。主持是TVB 周奕瑋。我之前看過他主持其他節目但看他的旅遊節目都是第一次。他會講流利日文所以跟當地人交流是沒有問題的。他帶觀眾去的地方非常好玩，吃的地方很吸引，也介紹好多好地方買有趣的東西。如果你計劃去日本就考慮看看‘周遊東京’
