Techniques for risk management: Delphi Method - consensus among experts
To a certain extent, the technique of the Delphi Method is a technique that is contrary to the brainstorm technique presented in the first post of the series.
A brainstorming process is a group process in which each person expresses his or her creative ideas, even those that may seem to be far from reality.
In Delphi Method, participants do not necessarily meet. More precisely, in most cases, they do not need to gather together and talk.
In brainstorming, participants share ideas and continue creative ideas of other participants and take them to more distant regions in an unstructured discussion.
The Delphi Method is a structured process in which experts answer questionnaires.
Delphi Method
The name Delphi Method is derived from the ancient city of Delphi. In this city sat Oracle , who murmured prophecy in the name of God in the Temple of Apollo.
Process participants based on the Delphi technique are experts. Perhaps they have some ability to predict the future better than others.
The first step is to select a leading team that builds the process, defines goals, resources and selects the team of experts.
After doing it you can start implementing the Delphi Method in the context of risk management.
The process involves several rounds of questionnaires that the results of each round are input to the next round.
The goal is to reach a range of views and perceptions of consensus.
