Robot News - They Can Swim, Walk and Roll!

in #robot6 years ago (edited)

Cool developments coming out of Harvard these days it seems... It turns out they are becoming extremely proficient in designing tiny amphibious robots!

The Harvard Ambulatory Microbot (HAMR) now has the ability to swim and walk underwater. Of course it needs not to be said that before its recent upgrades it already had no problem walking on land.

But how can it swim exactly? Well it seems engineers were able to design Its foot pads to use surface tension and related buoyancy to float on the water. I think its absolutely amazing.

Its tiny size and 1.65-gram weight play a crucial role -- significantly bigger and it would be hard for the robot to stay above-water.

When it needs to return to land, HAMR overcomes the surface tension force with a stiffened transmission and soft pads that redistribute the friction while it climbs out of the water. The mini machine is even something of a cargo hauler with support for a 1.44-gram payload.

So now that I've informed you about the tiny swimming robots let me turn your attention to another interesting robot. It seems that the brand new CanguRo robot is part transport, part best friend!

I had to laugh watching the video below... Let me just leave you with this question before you watch the video... How do you think the CanguRo will sell in Western markets? Do you think westerners would be up for traveling like the guy in the video?

Well, I hope you found that as entertaining as I did! Please go ahead and leave comments and feedback below about these new super robots! I'd love to know how you feel about them.
