Sankofa Folktale Contest — STEEM Prizes To Be Won!

in #sankofa6 years ago (edited)

Hello world! We are back with a fun creative writing contest to participate in. And of course some money to win.

It's Sankofa! Like we always say, "let's go back to get it."

Do you remember the wife that ate the goat and had to be tested in a flowing stream? Or the son that killed his brother and took the flower home? Do you remember the tortoise and his many mischiefs? Or was it the masquerade that came out on the big market day? Does yours feature dwarfs, gnomes or goblins? Folk stories have always lived with us and have played a huge role in our cultural identity and moral upbringing. So we are going back to bring them, and make them fresher for the Steem community.

And WIN some money for doing that.

Read this introduction post to know what Sankofa is all about.

The Contest

For this round of the contest we are going to explore native folk tales from cultures around the world. Share any exciting folk tale in the most creative and original way you can think of. All you need are just loose memories of the original plot, and you create an interesting story to share with us. The best entries win some STEEM.

What are Folk Tales?

In its most basic description, a folktale is a form of folk literature, from any origin, usually oral, where the storyteller has absolute freedom on its credibility, as long as it pleases (or delivers lessons if that is the intention).

"Animals abound here whether in their natural form or anthropomorphized so that they seem sometimes men and sometimes beasts. Adventure stories, exaggerations, marvels of all kinds such as other-world-journeys, and narratives of marriage or sexual adventure, usually between human beings and animals, are common." — Britannica

If you need inspiration, this African folktale by @dante31 is an earlier entry to the Sankofa competition many many moons ago.

This is another one from @misterakpan.
