Treasures in Heaven --- (devotional)

When Serwaah(a friend) was growing up, she and her two bothers two liked to sit by one another on top of their fathers’s large cedar-lined chest. Serwaah's mum kept serwaah's wool sweaters(a handiwork that was crocheted by Serwaah's grandmother) in it. These valued objects were kept in the cedar-line chest because they relied on the pungent smell of the cedar wood to discourage certain pest from causing damage to the things inside.

Most possessions on earth can easily be spoilt by insects,rust, or can even be stolen. The book of Matthew chapter 6 encourages us to postion a special focus—not on things that temporary but on those that have long lasting(eternal) value. When Serwaah's mom died at the age of fifty-seven, she had not gained a lot of earthly possessions, however I like to ponder about the treasures she stored up in heaven .

I'm saying this because I recall how much love she had for God and the time she spent serving Him in quiet ways: faithfully caring for her family, being a Sunday school teacher, being kind to her neighbors, and comforting the hopeless. She still continued to pray even when she lost her sight, and was confined to a wheelchair.

Beloved, our real treasures are not determined by what accumulate , but rather in whom/what we invest our passions and time. What “treasures” do you think are we storing up in heaven by following, serving, and abiding by the words of Jesus Christ?
