Lesson 21: Maintain an adequate perspective.

Greetings to all the friends and brothers in Christ.

Did you know that a single cup of tea contains enough moisture to cover your neighborhood with a mist several meters thick?

It is surprising that so little water, but so scattered, can impede our vision almost completely.

Usually, we oppose when the fog obstructs our journey, but we forget that the sun still shines in all its splendor. Why do we bother? Because we do not keep a correct perspective.

A British Christian statistician once commented: "The objects of life are seen with the naked eye, disproportionately, as through a magnifying glass, due to their proximity." Problems and worries often act like fog and hide the current situation. They prevent us from seeing things in perspective.

Psychologists say that 45% of our concerns have to do with the past, 45% with the future. (30% is related to our health). Only one in ten worries will come true, and generally we can not do anything to prevent it from happening.

It is not surprising, then, that Jesus Christ tells us: "Do not worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will bring your enthusiasm" (Matthew 6:34). The Bible also commands us: "Do not be anxious about anything" (Philippians 4: 6). The worry appears every time we lose the right perspective.

Sometimes we treat problems and tests as if they were part of an advertisement. We act like we have to solve everything in 30 seconds, and since we can not achieve it, we get desperate.

We try all possible solutions that come to mind, and when none works, we reluctantly turn to God, as in "last resort".

However, in heaven there are no emergencies. God is aware of our problems (Exodus 3: 7, 1 Peter 5: 7). He did not create us so that we would be self-sufficient to meet those needs. He created us so that we depend on him.

Do you face a difficult situation, friend, of the block chain? Is your path covered in a thick fog? God has not allowed that situation to enter your life so that you feel discouraged or defeated. Each examination we pass is an opportunity for God to demonstrate what he really is for us: a loving and faithful Father.

King Hezekiah undeniably experienced the care of God. I recommend that you meditate on Isaiah 37 and make a list of the steps that King Hezekiah took when faced with a serious problem. Then compare your list with what I give you below:

  • Hezekiah acknowledged that he had a problem (37: 1).
  • I wanted to know what the Word of God said about that problem (37: 2-7).
  • He did not allow anything to distort his perspective (37: 8-13).
  • He prayed to God: first he worshiped him, then he presented his request and finally asked that everything be for the glory of the Lord (37: 14-20).

Let us follow these same steps when we face a difficulty or test. Remember that in those moments we get to know God much more intimately.

@carlis20. Having a positive attitude does not simply mean that the limits of what God can do are taken away, but it also helps us to see our circumstances from God's perspective and also enables us to enjoy our daily life.
