THE PROMISE OF THE SPIRIT

"Suddenly, there was a noise from the sky similar to the roar of a strong and impetuous wind that filled the house where they were sitting. Then, something similar to flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each one of them. And all those present were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them that ability. "Acts 2: 2-4 (New Living Translation)

The day of Pentecost is the celebration of the harvest festival. And one of these days the Father sent what he had promised, the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2).

The Holy Spirit is received when you believe in Jesus and the believer is grafted into the body of Christ who is the Church, as a body and not a building (Galatians 3:27). When a believer believes in Jesus for the salvation of sins, the Holy Spirit takes him to himself so that he does not get lost, and with love and truth the Holy Spirit guides all believers towards the perfect will of the Father. However, there is much more: the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit empowers the believers and seasons the work of God, giving life. The Holy Spirit in whom is responsible for revealing the statutes of God to believers, because without him the Scriptures can not be interpreted correctly. After being baptized in the Holy Spirit believers will heal the sick, cast out demons, preach with power, prophesy on God's part and live God's purpose for their lives in passion.

There are mainly two types of beliefs regarding the evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, those who believe that the gift of speaking in tongues is the infallible proof of receiving such baptism, and those who affirm that they do not necessarily have to speak in tongues to have received the power from above. I personally believe that it is not necessary to have received the gift of speaking in tongues as evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but to have had a supernatural encounter with God after seeking and yearning for it.

Acts 19: 2 says that the Holy Spirit is received when you believe. Although in that particular case the believers spoke in tongues after receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit, there are other cases in which it is not detailed that they spoke in tongues upon receiving the gift of God. In Acts 8:17 it says that when Peter and John laid hands on the believers of Samaria they received the Holy Spirit, but he does not claim that they spoke in tongues. Furthermore, Acts 9: 17-20 does not say that Paul spoke in tongues when he was filled with the Holy Spirit.

What it does is that God gives His Spirit to those who obey Him (Acts 5:32), to those who seek Him with all their heart (Jeremiah 29:13) and who want to be filled with God (John 7: 37-39).

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ and you have not yet been baptized in the Holy Spirit, and you long to receive it with all your heart, pray with me this prayer and receive the promised harvest:

"Father, I long to be full of your presence. Only your power can satisfy me. Send me the promise you gave your Son Jesus and fill me with the Holy Spirit. You said you would give your Holy Spirit to whoever believed and asked you. Blow from your life in me, I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen. "
