CORRECT APPROACH

"Set your mind on the things above, not on the things of the earth." Colossians 3: 2 (VRV)

Source

When reading this passage without deepening what he wants to say to us, it seems that we should reduce importance to everything earthly; However, by paying due attention we can understand it better.

Every day I talk to people who live locked in "their" problems; he runs to God when he has no other alternative, he has already exhausted his resources in possible solutions, and I am not only talking about health problems, but of all kinds. In a tone of reproach they exclaim "Why, my God, why me !?" However, they are people who in one hundred percent left the Lord aside.

"Searching for things from above" means striving to put celestial priorities into daily practice. "Looking for things from above" means preferring the eternal rather than the temporary.

The bible says: "And the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which you were also called in one body; and be thankful. "Colossians 3:15 (VRV)

Putting "the look" means "where we focus our lives" There are two targets where to look: 1) The things above. 2) The things of the earth. The "things above" are all those that have to do with God, but "the things of the earth" are all those that have to do with "this world without God".

The true home of Christians is where Christ lives (John 14.2, 3). This truth gives us a different perspective in our lives here on earth. "Setting your sights on things above" means looking at life from God's perspective and doing what pleases Him. This is the antidote for materialism. We get the proper perspective of material goods when we see them in the same way God sees them. The more we consider the world around us the way God does, the more we will live in harmony with Him. We should not become too attached to that which is only temporary.

The real motivation comes when we look for his face, instead of his hands only.

Sort:

What happens when we remove our gaze from Christ? You have to ask the apostle Peter, "... then Peter answered him, and said: Lord, if it is you, command me to go to you on the water. And he said: Come. And Peter descended from the boat, walked on the waters to go to Jesus. But seeing the strong wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me! "(Matthew 14: 28-30).

Peter began to walk on the water looking at Christ but suddenly he removed his sight of Jesus and looked at the "strong wind" and "he was afraid" and began to "sink".

This has happened to many believers who, instead of putting their eyes (trust) on the Son of God, look at the problems, the obstacles and lose their focus, their priority, which is Christ.

If we remove our gaze from Jesus Christ, we will not reach the destination where we want to arrive, which is eternal life; end faithful to God.
