An ambitious project to safeguard the biodiversity of the Amazon preserving the genetic code of all the sequenced Amazonian species. This is the aim of The Earth Bank of Codes (EBC).
So where could all this information be recorded in order to be accessible to everyone?
By now you know the answer.
However the answer is the BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY.
The task of the Blockchain is to preserve the genetic code of all the sequenced Amazonian species.
The security of this technology that cannot be manipulated being a real Public Register in which both genome data and data on exploitation rights of the intellectual property will be recorded.

What is the purpose of this project?
Simple!
Keep track of the economic revenues related to the Amazon species to recognize adequate compensation for indigenous peoples.
What am I talking about?
Until now the indigenous peoples living in the territory have never received any compensation by multinationals, despite the intensive exploitation of the Amazon.
In fact, many foreign companies patent the plants or their active ingredients used for centuries by the native population of the Amazon but has never received a penny in return.

In recent decades, BIOPIRACY cases have grown exponentially.
What is biopiracy?
It is all those acts of appropriation and economic exploitation of the indigenous assets by the multinationals.
The Earth Bank of Codes really wants to fight this phenomenon and protect the rights of the indigenous people who have always been exploited and mistreated in their territories.
Through the DNA sequencing mix of the Amazon forest's biological resources and the transparency and authenticity of Blockchain Technology, a sustainable economic development path will be created.
The biological and biomimetic resources of Nature could be worth trillions of dollars for the Global Economy and provide a path of sustainable economic development and a democratization of the distribution of capital.
Making the biological resources of nature visible and precious is the goal of the Earth Bank of Codes because the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies can not disregard from Nature’s biological and biomimetic assets.

Take a look a the video below published by The Economist, about Blockchain technology could help save the Amazon rainforest fighting the “biopirates”.
But all this is just the beginning of a larger project to sequence the DNA of all the complex life on the PLANET, Earth Bank of Code in partnership with the Earth BioGenome Project and the World Economic Forum launched and officialized the project at the 2018 World Economic Forum Meeting in Davos.
We must reflect on the importance of these projects that seem impossible to realize and also do not concern us all but let us not forget the risk of savannization of the Amazon in the coming years and what will imply for the entire world population.
Investing on our Planet and its natural resources through investments in bio-industries can only bring benefits to human societies.
